Can I test blood sugar by

Pricking a Cherry angioma?
Why? It doesn’t hurt to poke them.

LOL I just learned something new. I have one of those on my left bicep and never knew what it was called until I googled it just now.

I remember a time when I was in Spanish III in 11th grade and I picked at my cherry angioma because I didn’t like it and was trying to remove it from my arm. And the thing bled and bled to the point my Spanish teacher noticed blood on my hands and shirt and asked me what was wrong. It wasn’t gushing or anything but it was a very slow trickle that took a good 10-15 minutes to stop.

Given that, I’d be leery about provoking it to bleed. But then again, I was called a “bleeder” by an ER nurse who was stitching up my hand once. She said some people bleed more than others but she didn’t know any science behind it.

Mine don’t bleed that bad. To be honest that’s what I’ve been doing I just wonder if it’s accurate. Or if there is some other risk I don’t know about.

How old are you?

(Empress of the Unexpected) #5

Not trying to be personal, but the older you get, the more you have. I have an average of five at any given time.

  1. I have 2 big ones that I always remember having and lots of freckle sized ones.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #7

Genetic variations in the various clotting factors.

:+1: Same. I thought they were just called “red moles” or something.

(Kay) #9

+2 I had no clue that’s what they’re called, I’ve had one on my leg for years!

I really do not mean anything negative just that your question motivated my curiosity sensors.

I just pricked my testicle and my finger and got exactly the same result.

It does not hurt like the finger

:astonished:

“Alternate site testing” is mostly okay when our blood sugar level is not changing. During or right after exercise, after eating, or if you feel faint - like your blood sugar might be going low - these times mean it’s best to use the finger tip.

I think that in the future I’ll use the outside of my forearm - there are less nerves there and personally it’s always been no problem with pain.

I’m not brave enough to find out. :anguished:

Cheers, my friend.

Cherry angiomas - I’ve never heard of this doctor before, but this article makes a good bit of sense to me, as far as complications from high lood sugar. He also mentions darkening skin, skin tags, nail fungus, cataracts…

(Empress of the Unexpected) #13

That is a disturbing article. I have had skin tags since my teens. And as I am getting older, cherry angiomas. Another good reason to be keto for life.
