Can Branched Chain Amino Acids cause insulin spikes?

Hello! I was listening to the keto talk podcast, and someone had mentioned that they were using branched chain amino acids and eating an artificial sweetener, and wondering if that was causing them trouble. The doctor on the show said absolutely it was, but didn’t go into branched chain amino acids specifically.

I’d been taking these before crossfit work out for some time now, about a year, and they really seemed to be helping (with crossfit training). I am wondering now if I should stop now that I am keto? Any info on this? Thanks.

Yes they can, absolutely. Anecdotally many people claim that BCAA supplements (even ones with no sweeteners) kick them out of ketosis temporarily.

I’ve used them in the past and they’re an OK appetite suppressant and seem to have some benefit for me when pushing through a fasted workout. But honestly I’m not sure they’re worth the money.
