Calisthenics can build muscle

So while, you won’t look like a body builder from calisthenics training. The body you do end up building towards is more like the old greek statues. They used calisthenics for the Olympic training. That lends more towards strength and the over used word of functional strength then just isolating one muscle and potentially putting too much stress on your joints and tendons by adding more weight then your body weight resistance. Some people in calisthenics do add some weight but in a less stressful way such as body weight vests, ankle weights, and kettle bells.
