Calculating my daily carb intake

#1

Hi everyone

I have no idea how to count the carbs I consume on a daily basis, so I was wondering … as a rule of thumb, if my only carb sources are veggies, would I stay under 20grams/day?

I am eating a wider range of vegetables than ever before, including fairly high carbs ones like butternut squash (mainly for potassium) and sweet potato and other root vegetables (carrots, parsnip etc), but in general I’m sticking mainly to greens.

Thanks!

NO

Some veggies are high in carbs. You really need to learn how to count the carbs, or you will be doomed to fail.
Its quite easy really, type the following into google

‘Nutritional information jersey royal potatoes’

and you will find in the results somewhere, a site which will tell you the macros for jersey royal potatoes. Make sure you check the weight/quantity of your consumption, against the website info. If it says 4g of carbs per 100g weight, and you ate 50g, you had 2g of carbs.

Or you can read the packaging label (if it comes with one). In the Europe, you can use the ‘Carbs’ quantity as it says on the packet. In the US, you should subtract the ‘Fiber’ value from the ‘Carb’ value to give you the figure to use.

Or you can use one of the many trackers out there ‘MyFitnessPal’ is a common one.

It’s really unlikely.

Tracking is the only way you’re going to know. I like Cronometer, because I feel I can trust the data, but others like other apps/programs.

Your carbs should mostly come from veggies, but you should focus on green leafy veg.
You’d be amazed how many carbs are in root veg and it is best to avoid them.
If you want potassium, try spinach and broccoli and avocados. All those are high in potassium and keto friendly.

Then its pretty easy just look on the back of the packet and see the carb content per 100g weigh what you eat and record the carbs.
Mine mostly comes from cream and milk these days with the odd bit of dark chocolate as I mainly eat meat

I agree with english. Get Cronometer and learn to use it. It’s invaluable for me.
