Caffeine increases ketones

(Jim Russell) #1

“Caffeine given at breakfast significantly stimulated ketone production in a dose-dependent manner (+88%; +116%) and also raised plasma free fatty acids.”

And that was while feeding the subjects a carby breakfast. Interesting.

Revisiting: Caffeine and coffee increases blood ketone production
(Peter Chafe) #3

Well this is interesting, I am a little curious, I am a Blood Plasma donor, and tend to have higher hematocrit while going to donate. On donation days, I tend to try and drink more water to try and lower that number, but I normally opt for decaf coffee in an attempt to counteract the diuretic nature of caffeine! It would be great to know if Caffeine would be more effective than decaf, for people following the ketogenic way of eating. Perhaps drinking decaf could be slowing down the effects, and we just don’t realize it:)
