Buy it or Avoid it?

(Garry (Canada)) #1

My local Costco sells this brand. It leaves a pasty/waxy type film in my mouth and I’m not sure if it’s the ingredients or just that because it’s the cold fat.
Any thoughts? Good/Bad/Other? Why?

(Karen) #2

Carageenan. I think best to avoid.

We are so lucky in the UK. Cream just has one ingredient and that’s milk.

#4

I’d be more concerned that milk is the second ingredient, and milk has more carbs than cream. In fact, the label states an outright 1 gram of carbs per T. Most/many creams/whipping creams are labeled 0 but come in at 0.4 grams carb.

(Allie) #5

All cream is made out of milk.

Thanks Karen… I’ll definitely be on the lookout to avoid any product containing Carrageenan from now on. :+1:

Doesn’t your store have the Horizon Organic? It was actually the cheaper variety at my store. No-brainer.

(Shantanu) #8

This is a staple in my house. Available at Whole Foods. Only 1 ingredient. Horizon contains some sort of thickening agent as does Stonyfield. This is the only one that lists cream as the only ingredient.

Unfortunately, I’ve never seen this brand.
I’ll check some natural food stores next weekend, and see if I can find this brand or similar. Thanks.

I’ll was planning to make a trip one of these days to my closest (70 minutes one way) Whole Foods. Perhaps it’ll be sooner than planned. Thanks.

(Allie) #11

Any help to anyone? I keep hearing it advertised and really good reviews, but no use to me in the UK…

(Garry (Canada)) #12

Not available here in Canada either. :frowning:

(Allie) #13

I’m sure Leanne Vogel uses them and she’s in Canada… no free shipping she says, but deliveries available. Her podcast is one of the places I’ve heard it advertised.

(Garry (Canada)) #14

Perhaps things have changed, and they haven’t updated their website?

(Allie) #15

If that’s the case, it doesn’t paint a good picture of them - or it could’ve changed since I stopped listening to that podcast to I guess.

(Garry (Canada)) #16

Thanks for bringing the LV podcasts to my attention Allie… I’m going to browse through them and give’m a listen. :+1::+1:

Just noticed you’re in Canada. Maybe Costco has another organic brand they carry up there? Costco is the #1 purveyor of organic produce in the US - I can’t imagine they would be operating so differently in the frozen north!

(Kathy M) #18

Canada regulates dairy marketing and sales so dairy products at Costco will be different from what is offered in other countries. Same reason we don’t see KerryGold butter in Canada.

(Candy Lind) #19

Still, they could carry Canadian organic cream. Do they have a lot of organic produce?

(Garry (Canada)) #20

Costco generally has great organic options with produce/meats/nuts etc but not in this case with dairy.
I think @katmm has hit the nail on the head here with Costco and regulations.

They’ll probably offer some organic marijuana before they offer organic real cream…lol.

Wanna trade real Canadian maple syrup for some Kerry gold??? Haha…Just kidding!!!
