Bring back Baytowvin

(TJ Borden) #61

You know I love you Daisy. I have you to thank for finally getting my wife on keto.

The fact is I was told specifically by two separate admins to ignore that specific person. That specific person was telling people exactly what I stated previously about eating less, exercising more, and eating 250 grams of carbs. The admins that told me to ignore that person may not have realized what that person had said and that they were making those recommendations to newbies, but that goes to my point that many aren’t on that often. That’s not a criticism, many are busy with a lot of other things.

This is why I decided to take a break. I don’t mind battling trolls, but I have no interest in battling admins, especially ones that react with threats of suspension based on snap shots of larger conversations. On the whole, I do appreciate what you/they do, but admins have the power to kick, and the most I can do is ruffle troll’s feathers (because trolls fly in my analogy).

Okay…I’ve already broken my break twice today now, so back to it. On a positive, I have been WAY more productive at work the last couple days.

I hope you reconsider and return. I’m surprised I haven’t gotten the admin hammer yet with some of my posts, but as a 62 year old fit alpha sort of male, I’ll say what I think. Phucke thee consequences as my peers used to say in the olen days.

(Kirk) #63

At the risk of upsetting the net nannies, why is my previous reply hidden?

(Chris) #64

We can NOT have this. This is an outrage.

#65

Fair enough. A breather is never a bad thing to gain some perspective. I think forum fatigue is a thing so take some personal time but come back strong with loads of food pics please

#66

Ms Daisy, does that also apply to the admins? This is an adult forum,
netediquette is necessary, and being aware and having a plan to
confront and take action on those not meeting standards is important.
Being new to this forum, I do believe that those who are not proponents
of Keto need to be eliminated from participating in this forum. Some of
us do not have the luxury of supportive medical personnel, and must seek
other avenues to investigate and affirm our progress in the Keto life journey.
Unless an action is to impact egregious submissions by offenders, it
does impact the whole community. It impacts our trust and willingness to
participate in this forum. If the words I say are offensive, I apologize,
but the USA culture is already antagonistic, and riff by doubt and division.
I just request consideration for participants that make a difference in the
lives of those seeking restoration of their health through a Keto lifestyle. Amen.

(Daisy) #67

You really mess with my head lol. It’s so rare for me to run across another Daisy. I see people referring to you constantly and I’m like wait…oh… lol

I think we have to be careful in being too closed minded when it comes to keto and what can and can’t be be discussed on the forum. I agree that some advice given can be somewhat dubious, especially when it comes to advising newbies and find talk of CICO distasteful. However, that is just my opinion. It’s a fine line when it comes to restricting what is said. Where does one draw the line and decide what is in and what is out? Who decides that? The placement of that line is so subjective. When it is clear that people have joined with the specific intent to troll then they are shown the door but those who are curious or have a different opinion are free to challenge some of the more commonly held ā€œrulesā€. I have always tested the boundaries and challenged keto theories - it’s part of how I learn and decide which theories stand up and which are full of holes. The Dudes have always had an open policy when it comes to discussion. The community is free to flag comments they find offensive and the admins will react to that. Any member who gets flagged consistently will be looked at closely and suspended or asked to leave if we feel they are trolling or are unkind/rude to other members. That is the beauty of this community - every member has the ability to flag comments they find offensive.

Hey fellow Daisy

Thank you for your input. That has certainly helped me as to
how I see this forum for my own Keto journey. I appreciate
the quick response. Hope all well in Southern France.

So, question… are flags weighted? I have a feeling some flaggers use this tool less responsibly than others. If a militant CICO person flags responses that are simply disagreements, albeit passionately stated, but the disagreer does not flag the poster giving bad information it seems the wrong person could be cautioned. It feels like making the bullied kid shake hands and make up with their bully.

I get what you mean about where to draw the line. It’s a good point. But as @Ohioms said, it is also frustrating to come here and battle the same issues we face out in the world.

I do also want to add, I’m grateful for this forum, even on its less shining days. I recently deleted and reinstalled YouTube. My new search results for keto after the memory wipe served as a good remodel how much bad information there is out there and helps me understand why so many newbies are confused.

Autumn is definitely here but there is a warm wind coming up from Spain and I have been out collecting the walnuts from my trees this afternoon - those that haven’t been hollowed out by the red squirrel that is! The dogs like to munch a few too and I’ve seen a badger who comes down in the middle of the night to feast. I’m happy to share though

Anyone can flag anything they like. The weighting comes in with the number of flags a comment/topic receives. After a certain number, the comment gets hidden automatically by the system. Flags pop up for admins to deal with which means they either agree/disagree or dismiss it. It goes against you if you are flag happy for no good reason and is logged on your account - s the number of flags you have given and received will be displayed to admins. What tends to happen is that flags are discussed in a group chat amongst admins, especially those that are contentious. Ultimately, an admin gets to decide and so there will always be some bias but we do try to be fair. We don’t always agree with each other either and things can get heated discussing your flags sometimes! Any decisions made by humans will be flawed. We all try our best but it is hard to be completely impartial and put all personal bias to one side.

I do understand what you are saying about battling issues you would rather not. There is an option to mute members that you can employ if you find particular members disconcerting. We have booted a number of people out but it is always a last resort. If you ever feel that someone is particularly disruptive you can always message one of us privately to see if we can help.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply :orange_heart:

(Running from stupidity) #75

Yeah, this MUST BE STOPPED!

It’s pretty good forum software overall - it’s better than the free ones I’ve used - but yes, that is a very strange omission. Along with the cap on likes - it’s not as if that can be automated.

YOU BASTARD!

Not sure if anyone followed the 2016 US election, and saw what happened when the media was far too slow to react and call out one particular presidential candidate with truths that they knew. Open-minded is fine, but at times, people with a very clear agenda can get outside cultural norms and mislead many without being called out and havoc can be wreaked.

#76

It’s a good thing that the future of America won’t be decide here then! Seriously though, where do you draw the line? You could say that anyone who is ā€œnot ketoā€ has to leave the forum or not be allowed to join in the first place. OK, but who decides what is keto enough to be keto? Who is going to draw up the list of rules? I have found that the more you encourage compassion and support, the more open and kind discussion becomes. I have a Facebook group that is loosely held together by keto as a common thread but it is more a support group for the women who are members. Posts that aren’t about keto or are about keto ā€œrule breakingā€ are as valid as any other. How often do things get nasty? Virtually never. It can be tempting to start stamping down rules but the more you do so, the more likely people start kicking off in my experience. Put the responsibility on each member to just be nice to each other. I’m not your parent, your headmistress or anyone else who might discipline you - that’s on you. Just be nice, it’s not that hard! Debate to your heart’s content but just try and stay a bit detached, enough anyway to remain civil and on topic.

(Terence Dean) #77

Admit it @Baytowvin you only came back because I started counting calories again.

Seriously, taking a break is a good way to chill, that’s why you don’t see too many of my posts lately. Sometimes I’ve got better things to do than duel it out on the forums but most of us are here to repair damage to our bodies whether its chronic disease, to stem the onset of diabetes, lose some pounds, or some other reason. At least we’ve got that in common, so we’re heading in the same general direction, the implementation of keto may vary but hey it’s the old N=1 scenario, more than one way to keto, and that’s what I love about this WOE.

As my favourite quote from Dr. Phinney goes: ā€œNever argue with successā€.

I totally agree with you (did the planets align?) about advice to newbies but an admin’s job is never done. I’m an administrator on several gaming servers, so in my opinion they do a great job here. It’s nearly impossible to keep EVERYONE happy but fairness and consistency are good guidelines.

#78

Like politics in real life, they’re used as weapons of disagreement. I pissed off an sensitive person a couple months back and there had to be a private messaging bomb sent out to that persons army because the flag level on me for saying crap that wasn’t even bad was NUTS! So being that what I said was being twisted I explained… Flagged even more! I don’t know what happened with the thread that’s being talked about but hopefully this place doesn’t turn into reddit. I’m seeing more and more things suggesting that lately.

#79

Don’t want to peel an onion that maybe rotting, but newbies
for the most part, take things literally in order to give it their best shot!
Perhaps this forum is for more seasoned (over a year) users of Keto.
Boundaries are important to me (maybe I am alone in that), and until
I know what the game is, what the rules are, and what the
infractions/penalties are, practice can be very misleading. That is
one reason I sought out this forum - not to be pampered or enabled,
but to get it right, find answers, and enjoy commaradie in the adventure.

Well, being I was stuck in meetings all day, I’m just seeing this post for the first time as of 15 minutes ago…

I didn’t see the other post mentioned, nor do I want to go searching for it. I’ve always tried to avoid those threads when possible, and try to stick to those I find informative and useful. But can also understand your stance, and again, it’s always appreciated. … All I can say is that this thread alone shows just how much your presence here is appreciated.

So I will just chat with ya, when you do decide to return buddy. … Just make sure you post-bomb us with all the food pics we missed out on!!!
