Breaking a Fast - my menu

PLAN FOR BREAKING MY FAST

What do you all think of this as my food plan for breaking my 5-day fast? Light tonight, little fat, protein from broth after a couple of hours. Tomorrow, adding in more protein and fats but still pretty light. Anything that will for sure undo the benefits of the past 5 days?

Tonight
6:30 pm - 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
7:30 pm - 1/2 cup sauerkraut, water with squirt of fresh lemon juice
8:30 pm - 1-2 cups homemade egg drop soup (beaten egg drizzled into boiling bone broth with tummy-friendly herbs/spices)

Tomorrow
Breakfast - boiled egg, half avocado
Lunch - leafy greens w/ vinaigrette and a few pecans
Dinner - homemade soup of chicken, crushed tomato, and spinach

Saturday
Breakfast - egg fried in butter, half avocado
Lunch - Rotisserie chicken w/ skin, side salad of greens, pecans and tomatoes, olives
Dinner - Corned beef, swiss cheese w/ sauerkraut

Sounds good if you can do it.

For me, I basically have something smaller then eat a full meal about an hour or so later. Then eat normally.

I’m not hungry at all but maybe that’ll change once I get bite of food.

I am trying to make sure I don’t undo the benefits I got from the past five days, based on advice I’ve read in various places. And spending as little time in the bathroom as possible.

You seem very prepared and are doing great. I hope that you reaped lovely Autophagy benefits from your fast, and hopefully some scale movement too =).

I just cooked four strips of belly pork and fried four eggs. Sorted it for me.

You may find you’re not massively hungry afterwards…

Looks good to me.

My husband breaks his 36-hr fasts like @ctviggen. He will have a small plate of charcuterie then wait an hour, then have a regular meal and eat normally after that.

I’ve done a few 24-36 hour fasts and broke them like that, as well, and it’s not gone well for me. My gradual plan is my n=1 test to see if I can 1) not frequent the bathroom and 2) not gain back much of the 7 pounds lost. (I’ve read that it’s not uncommon to gain back half of the weight lost. Dang it, I don’t want to!)

We’ll see. May not matter at all. :woman_shrugging:t2:

There are definitely people out there who advocate a system like yours. I’ve seen formulas such as “for every day of fasting, you need X hours of liquid/small amounts of food”. There’s no harm in trying it. If you get too hungry, you just eat more.

For me, I need the calories. My 4.5 day fasts end on Fridays, but every weekend lately, I’m busting my butt doing work around the house. That’s so tough that I often eat even three times per day, which is unusual. And, I want try to bounce back to hit another fasting the next week. I find if I don’t eat enough calories during “feast mode”, I get too cold and can’t fast.

And while I think that hunger does go down somewhat, I’m not one of those people who come out of a long fast and am able to eat a tiny bit. I will sometimes eat three times that day, or even more. Not always, but sometimes.

Yes, I plan on laundry, cleaning, walking the dog and watching the new Lion King so basically, sitting on my butt. Big difference in energy requirements there!
