Breakfast please

I’m so tired of bacon and eggs or sausage and eggs… I need ideas… P.s i hate avocados

You can do a lot with omelets. It is still eggs, but you can make them with any assortment of fillings / toppings: spinach, broccoli, mushrooms, cheese, onions, peppers, tomatoes, salsa, sour cream.

You can saute chard and top with a fried egg. You can have a steak and salad if you want - there is no requirement to have “meat and eggs” as the only option for breakfast. Lox and cream cheese (no bagel) would be great as well.

Depending on how well you handle dairy and what your personal carb limit is - I sometimes have yogurt (Fage Total Plain 5%) with berries and nuts as a breakfast meal. Sometimes by itself, sometimes along with an omelet or eggs.

I hate avocados too lol
frittatas are good and you can put whatever you like in them.
Mexican style scrambled eggs, fresh pico fried with eggs, topped with cilantro, and sour cream. Sometimes I put them on top ground beef with taco seasoning.
Steak for breakfast

Pancakes, muffins, waffles, French toast, cereal

These are not recommended for someone who wants to remain in ketosis.

(less is more, more or less) #6

Skip breakfast.

I’ve had 5 breakfasts in the past 20 months. I’m a morning person, and skipping breakfast gives me better pep and focus. I also have to remind myself to eat eggs.

(less is more, more or less) #7

Wait, what? Are you being facetious or ironic?

There are recipes to replace some non-keto foods with lower carb versions. Here are some ideas from DietDoctor. There are others if you search.

We don’t have to eat “breakfast” foods in the morning. My digestive system does well on steak, leftover roast, chicken wings and vegetables, any time of the day.

#10

I’m making a batch of this this morning specifically to avoid egg burnout. Its more for those of us that are net carb watchers instead of total carb watcher

#11

This is true, breakfast foods are more cultural ideas than necessity. Which is why I love breakfast for dinner!

(bulkbiker) #12

What’s breakfast?

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #13

It’s the meal you eat at 2 p.m., I believe.

Many Asian cultures like a light soup for breakkfast.

These are good to break up things but I wouldn’t make a daily habit of it, they have significant carbs compared to bacon and eggs.

My FAVORITE is a French toast egg loaf. The whole family will love it or you can save leftovers!
(I only make this on Saturdays. Normally coffee is my breakfast).

With a hand mixer, mix:

4 tbls softened butter
8oz softened cream cheese
8 eggs
1 tsp baking powder
1tsp vanilla
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tbls swerve granular

Bake (I use a round aluminum) for 40 min @ 400!

Sooo good with butter and homemade Keto maple syrup (or you can buy a choc zero brand on amazon)

I sometimes do Egg Loaf (i.e. “French Toast”) or Fluffy Coconut Flour Pancake Rounds with sugar-free syrup, although they do use a few eggs.

But you could have anything keto-friendly for breakfast. Steak, pizza, chicken salad, cheesewiches, …

On some mornings I forego all, even my coffee, for a big cup of Wyler’s brand of beef or chicken broth bouillon cubes. Only 1 or less carbs per cup. Tastes good and salty. Filling to me. (Don’t like all the ingredients but it is such a small amount.)

do you have to separate egg from whites? or just mix it all together? Do you need parchment on the pan? or oil?

#19

@PortHardy no need to separate the eggs. You can use parchment paper only if you don’t want to have to scrub the pan later . If you don’t use parchment then yeah you might want to grease first. But parchment does make everything super easy.

I like to make a low carb quiche.
6 eggs
1 cup heavy cream
8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 pound sliced fresh mushrooms
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
Dash pepper
Garlic powder
Dash onion powder

Saute the mushrooms in the butter until tender and slightly brown. Beat the eggs and cream together with the spices.

Place the cheese in the bottom of a greased pie plate. Top the cheese with the mushrooms and pour the egg mixture over that.

Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or an inserted knife comes out clean.

Let stand for 10 minutes before slicing.

6 to 8 servings. I go for 6 and just reheat every day for a minute in the microwave.

1/6: 406 calories, 36g fat, 18 g protein, 4 g carbs, trace fiber, 3.5 net carbs

1/8: 305 calories, 27 g fat, 13 g protein, 3 g carbs, trace fiber, 2.5 g net carbs

It is really good and you can vary the veg or add more. I like to add bacon to the mushrooms.
