Breakfast Ideas please

#1

Hello all, I started the Keto diet 2 weeks ago yesterday and the results so far have been impressive as I’ve lost 2.8kg(6lbs) given its all probably water weight nevertheless still I’m impressed… Although there’s one thing that I’m really struggling with and that is what to have for breakfast… I know I can have eggs any way I want them and bacon and trust me I have but I’m really stalled of eating them. And I’m craving things like cereals, Crumpets, Scotch pancakes, or just toast basically everything your not allowed.lol. But I just wondered if any of you guys have any ideas/Recipes to share that are Keto Friendly without eating meat or eggs…??

I say all food is breakfast food! why not steak or fish? I don’t eat breakfast except on the weekends and when I do it’s served after 12 lol. But seriously, breakfast foods are just cultural. You can eat anything you want!

If you are a net carb person, there are lots of pancake and granola cereal recipes online. I make a cereal with coconut flakes and some nuts and seeds that is quite tasty

It’s definitely culture based for me as I enjoy steak and Fish for Evening Meal and I wouldn’t dream of having them for breakfast nor would I eat Veg or Salad for breakfast… I just wondered if there’s alternative Recipes you can use to create your own bread/pancakes that are low Carb and Keto friendly and if there is are they actually any good?

Your cravings for crumpets and pancakes will go away. I know it’s frustrating. Be patient. I’ve tried several Keto bread style recipes. Pancakes and such. They are fun every now and then but I’m a sugar addict and so it’s not good or sustainable for me to include these regularly. They’ll snowball and lead to real sugar binges. Just something to keep in mind if you might have similar issues. Welcome and Good luck!

Paging @ClareBear

What is the bread/toast you eat? Coconut bread? I’m too lazy to search the food thread, sorry  But it looks sooo tasty!!

If you do a search here on the forum or online you can find many keto recipes for muffins, breads, pancakes, and waffles. There’s even a fruit jam you can make using chia seeds.

I’ve been keto for almost two years. I will now have meat and veggies for my breakfast. I rarely eat breakfast food. You may find that if you stick with this way of eating your tastes will change over time.

Thank you guys you are all been very helpful so quickly, After the first week I had to say to myself bacon and Eggs the other way round just to make it sound different. Lol. But it’s the grease/high fat all the time in mornings that puts me off… for my dinner I love tuna salads etc. And for everything meals Steak/Chicken with certain Veg… So the rest of my day is no problem at all… It’s just this little hurdle of breakfast I’ve had whipped Cream and a hand full of blue berries which I really enjoyed the other day and egar to find some more hidden gems I can try…

Yes this would be very interesting to know if that is worth trying, Thank you

I too don’t like anything heavy early in the day. After some time I got to where I wasn’t hungry at breakfast time. Don’t be surprised if you experience this too. I now eat just 1-2 times per day and so my breakfast of eggs and bacon is often at noon.

There are lots of recipes out there for granola, a bunch of different kinds of muffins, coconut flour pancakes, and keto waffles. There are numerous kinds of keto breads that are possible.

I can’t say I’m all that fond of using those in mass quantities but to add a little variety to life, I can’t see why they would necessarily be a problem either.

I also find that some mornings when I’m wanting to eat a little lighter, I’ll have a little full fat Greek yogurt with a dab of peanut butter and a few berries of some kind. Greek yogurt actually has a good bit of protein in it.

Google is your friend!

I think my favorite website is AllDayIDreamAboutFood.com but there are quite a few others out there that have really good recipes.

Good luck!

Do a search here of Pancakes. The pork rind pancakes are the bomb!

I prefer a lighter “breakfast” myself. I don’t really crave non keto foods such as bread but, if I’m not in the mood for eggs & bacon I usually have a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese with my BPC or tea. It keeps me full until 1pm or after.

Like another member mentioned, you will probably start to lose your appetite a bit. I only eat breakfast about every 4 or so days. I start my day at around 5:15a with coffee or tea & that’s usually all I need.

Try one of the keto breads with butter and a raspberry chia seed jam - all recipes online.
Sorry I’m a technophobe on the link front!

Thank you, for the advice buddy :+1:

And thanks to everyone else you’ve all been helpful so far… I had no idea they’d be Recipes for Keto bread etc… I’ll definitely have a look at those.

Skip breakfast and dont eat till after noon time. Stay in Ketosis longer.

I sometimes have yogurt with nuts and berries. Fage Total Plain 5% yogurt, maybe 1/2 cup, couple of ounces of berries, about an ounce of walnuts or pecans.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #18

Or sometimes even 2 p.m.! And it’s sometimes even leftover meat and broccoli from the night before.

For me at the moment I’m eating eggs(prepped differently every day) and bacon or 100% pork sausages or all mixed into an omelette at around 10-10:30am then have my evening meal around 5-6pm as I’m not hungry in between due to the heavy breakfast, i would much rather have a lighter breakfast at the same time, then a small tuna or ham salad around 1:30pm and evening meal at 6pm without going over my starting daily net carb goal of 25grams… I feel I would be less sickly and would enjoy the diet a lot more personally… So some Keto toast/Pancakes with butter… or some yogurt and a handful of berries for breakfast might well be some good ideas.

@JNO I thought once you got into Ketosis when your body had burnt through your Carb/Glucose stores then you would stay in Ketosis until you eat a high quantity of carbohydrates? I’m aware your body may not produce as many Keto’s for a short period after you have eaten a meal that has a small amount of carbs in but I didn’t think it took you out completely? I thought your body would remain using Fat as it’s primary source of Energy still due to the lack of Carbs/Glucose you’ve eaten??

you are correct. nothing wrong with eating breakfast, especially during the early stages while your body is still adapting to using fat for fuel. personally, i ate 3 meals daily for the first 6+ weeks of my keto journey. only began skipping breakfast once i naturally began feeling less hungry. don’t rush it, and don’t worry about kicking yourself out of ketosis when you eat, provided you’re keeping your carbohydrate intake low (<20g net, or total, daily). and as some others have already mentioned, your cravings will be greatly reduced after following this way of eating for a few weeks. i too thought i would miss things like bagels and cereal and muffins, but i don’t. check out either of the ‘what did you keto today’ threads for an endless supply of food ideas :slightly_smiling_face:
