Breakfast Ideas please

(Justin ) #21

You have to bring in insulin and insulin resistance. That is kinda the bigger picture where you get your body to being into ketosis as long as you can. All people and their bodies are different but this has just been working for me. I just say try it for a week and see how you feel. When you wake up and you are not hungry, dont eat! Have some apple cider vinegar and lemon and cinnamon and a black coffee or wheat grass juice then wait till lunch to eat.

I would say be creative.

How about:

avocado with shrimp and mayo filling
whipped cream with black berries
sausage wrapped in cheese
grilled chicken & veggies omelette
avocado and steak slices with mayo in seaweed wraps
cream and chia seed and stevia cereal
cream cheese and pattee in cheese wraps in lettuce wraps
smoked salmon & cream cheese in lettuce wraps
sauteed sardines and onions in coconut cream

… there are so many wonderful food ideas - take a leap

Try adding some avacados to that breakfast?

Might feel more satiated?

2 weeks???

In 6 more weeks you won’t be asking that question if you stick to keto. You’ll be saying… “lunch ideas please” because you will be skipping morning meals

Being that you’re only 2 weeks in, I think the cultural stuff and self-care matters A LOT. This is where the online recipes for various keto breakfast treats can help so much, as well as buying some keto-friendly sweeteners like Lakanto Syrup or Pyure erythritol/maple syrup, and having on hand some almond flour and coconut flour, with which to make tasty porridges and griddle cakes (or, what I call “mush” when my intended pancake - either sweet or savory - doesn’t hold together).

I wouldn’t advise trying to skip this meal that you’re used to having right now. You’re not fat-adapted yet! However, you’ll find that if you start having fatty tea or fatty coffee (with a little cream and 2-4 tablespoon of butter and coconut oil) when you don’t have time to cook - it’ll stick to your ribs and get you through till lunchtime just fine (and doesn’t spike your insulin).

I love to make some kind of “fancy” breakfast/brunch on the weekend. A good mush or porridge can be spiced and dressed up in lots of different ways, and some frozen blueberries sauteed in butter and added on the side along with some almond butter can be heavenly.

recipe 1 - my ‘cereal’ recipe
1 handful of chopped macadamias
1 Tbsp ground flax
1 handful coconut
2 Tbsp Chocorite whey protein meal replacement Vanilla flavor (has some vitamins too)
2 Tbsp pure wheat bran (I had flakes written here before but meant pure bran)
3 scoops of powdered Coconut Oil, Quest brand (total of 24 g fat)
1 tsp Erythritol or Allulose
Cinnamon to taste
pinch of Himalayan pink salt
One cup of unsweetened Flax milk (substitute unsweetened almond milk if nec)

I have a wide range of natural flavor extracts and add 1/2 - 1 tsp some based on what I’m feeling for that day (strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, banana, coconut, anise, maple, cherry).

Recipe #2 - Coconut Flour pancakes.
These are fantastic and you have to use erythritol or stevia or allulose to sweeten the pancakes and substitute unsweetened almond or flax milk. If you want syrup then buy Allulose maple syrup (best, and on amazon) or xylitol maple syrup. And put a ton of butter on them after! These are fantastic but really a treat and not a daily. I eat them with lots of butter but also some fatty sausage.

These recipes are quite low net carb. If you’re doing total carb keto, I’m not a believer and sorry I can’t help you.

It’s the best one I’ve tried! So yummy…what I love about it is you can switch the ingredients up slightly and they all come out really yummy. It toasts up nicely too. Enjoy!

Excellent…Bookmarked and on the ‘to do’ list! I don’t miss bread much but there are times…with egg breakfast, or a BLT sandwich.

Same here! I don’t miss bread…nor does this coconut flour bread even trigger my cravings. I just think its really lovely with butter accompanied with bacon and egg, or anything really.

I haven’t had breakfast since starting this way of eating… just coffee with cream… have you thought of that? extending your overnight fast a bit longer?

#31

@adp Thank you that’s great advice :+1:

#32

@Janie as a new starter I have no idea what is in store for me as I move forward in my Keto Diet journey it would be a massive bonus if I wake up not hungry for breakfast to where I can skip until lunch with maybe just a coffee or tea but still full of energy… Fingers crossed this is the same for me… :crossed_fingers:

@SlowBurnMary Thank you for for the tips and links it’s much appreciated

Different types of sausage is really good. Also marscapone cheese, almond/ coconut flour, vanilla extract, baking soda, baking powder, flax and chia seed made something kinda like a pancake. The integrity of it wasn’t the best but it stated my craving for pancakes that day.

Boring keto has worked wonders for me. I have eaten basically the same 12 foods for the last two months. I like them all pretty well, but it is unbelievably boring. There is no longer a point to browsing recipe websites, because I could cook all of my meals in my sleep at this point. There is no joy in going grocery shopping and finding unique new foods to try, because I buy the same 12 or so foods every single week. I never fantasize about eating anymore because I’ve had every meal a gazillion times.

Eventually, it gets so boring that I only think about food when I’m hungry, and I only eat until I’m satiated. Which is basically the starting point of a sustainable ketogenic diet.

Now that I have eating to satiety figured out, and I’m moving toward my waist goals at a steady pace, I’m less intimidated by things like fathead pizza. If I had started with keto pancakes, “sugar free” syrup, and almond flour scones, I never would have stood a chance. Everybody is different though. YMMV.

I agree @Don_Q, I didn’t attempt anything like keto baked goods or treats for over 2 months after starting. These things are nice for an occasional break from routine but I really don’t crave them. I’m happy with endless variations on omelettes and scrambles, but most days I eat sunny side up and bacon. I have been doing keto for 6 months now and unlike many others breakfast is something that works very well for me. I eat a protein/fat heavy breakfast and mostly skip lunch and eat meat and vegetables for dinner. My meals get smaller as the day goes on. I think eating early in the day gives me a sustained energy throughout the day and eating less for dinner is definitely more efficient for me. There’s lots of evidence that just shifting your meals earlier in the day and not eating for several hours before bed is healthy and you will loose more weight eating the same foods earlier. I try to be finished eating at 5:30-6:00pm every day. And I don’t snack anymore.

(Scott) #37

This is me^^^^I was adding extra fat and whipping eggs in HWC with cheese. I was just making more dishes to clean. A meat followed by two sunny side up eggs in the grease pool can be very efficient. It also broke a three month stall.

I agree with everyone taking a more simple mundane route to eating. The more complicated, the harder a diet regime is to follow. But as noted, everyone is different. I like the mundane, it’s safe, dependable and stable in a sometimes chaotic world. The simplicity is welcome, like coming home to a quiet house, sitting in my favorite chair and playing with my dogs. I’m older though and as a rule I don’t desire the challenge of finding something different to eat. If I do, I keep on hand some spicy or monk fruit sweetened nuts to take a small bite of once in a while. I can make them ahead of time and they’re always around should I feel that need for a little something different.

I think it’s important to not let food be the focus of life. Rather a necessity to living. I see how easy it is to be obsessed with cooking and eating a variety of foods. If you notice all the cooking channels and food channels. It seems as if food will be the next great obsession in life. It’s all many of us think about is our food. It’s a challenge for sure to find a happy medium between our brain, our mouth and our stomach.

Anyway, in response to your request, Make a daily menu for a two week period and make sure not have the same thing often. Eggs for instance, boiled, poached, omelet, egg salad. Sometimes it’s not the food item that needs to be changed but the way it is prepared.

Wow thank you @ClareBear those sound fantastic, could be a game changer for me I’m going to get the ingredients and give them a try I’ll let you know how I go… thanks again it’s much appreciated

(Jane) #40

You will get there. At first my husband and I ate pancakes with CarbQuick (low carb Bisquick mix) a lot early on. We haven’t made any in 8 or 9 months, I bet. IF we eat breakfast it is always an omelette nowadays.
