Brand New - 7 days in

Hello everyone, I am hoping someone can shed some light on this for me…

I am using Cronometer to give me my macros and to keep track…

I started Keto last week (3/4/19) where I was not counting macros except my Net Carbs. I was checking my blood ketones and was consistently around 1.6 - 1.9. I worked out on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Come Friday (3/8/19) through today (3/11/19) I have not been able to get into Ketosis range 1.6-3.0 mmol/l. Today was the first day where I have counted my macro’s. They were the following….

1,227 of my 1,081 kcal which is 114%

70g of my 68g of protein which is 103%

13g of my 20g of Net Carbs which is 65%

91g of my 81g of Fat which is 112%

I last ate a meal at around 2:30PM and just checked my blood Ketones at 6:15PM. My Ketone reading came back at .9. Any thoughts to what I am doing wrong? I have been around .4 - .9 since last Friday.

I look forward to hearing from you and I thank you in advance.

Thank you,

Drew

7 days in, .9 ketones isnt bad. Anything above .5 is nutritional ketosis. I honestly wouldnt worry about it too much unless youre consistantly .4 and under.

Hi Drew.

Your blood ketone levels are demand regulated. You might find that your levels are lowest upon waking up or after eating and highest between meals or when you are fasting.

They are low after waking up because we don’t require much energy to sleep. They are low after eating because there’s usually a carb element in our meal that gets prioritized for energy use. They are highest between meals because that’s when we need them the most.

Here’s an interesting article about a guy who tracked his ketone levels at various times of the day.

Just out of curiosity, which setting are you using? The Ketogenic/Low Carb? I am not sure if they have fixed the glitch on that setting but, after checking their message board, most users suggest using fixed targets instead. Check it out for yourself if you have time. I am a 5’ 3” female, 140 lbs & my protein is 69g. Yours seems a bit low.

As others have mentioned, you are in Ketosis so, don’t fret.

That you everyone. Your help is appreciated. I won’t fret over it then and I’ll read the article that Carl supplied.

Thank you,
