Bovril or Bone Broth

(Steve ) #1

Do any UK ketoers on here use Bovril?? Or am I better off buying a proper bone broth?

(Allie) #2

Completely different products. You’ll get none of the bone broth benefits from Bovril.

Have you found anywhere that sells bone broth? The few I’ve found online were hugely expensive.

(Allie) #4

I have the same issue @Elle79
Just a couple on Amazon that are silly money.

(Steve ) #5

I’ve only found expensive stuff too. Think I might head to the butchers, get some bones and make my own

(Ellen) #6

Would love to try making my own but seriously doubt my housemates would be happy with it as it apparently smells a bit.

I Use Bovril or Oxo cube regularly may not be as good as bone broth but oxo especially is much cheaper - must be doing some good as I get cramp if I forget to drink mug at bedtime🙂

I’ve made my own a few times in the slow cooker but never been that impressed with it. Seems like a lot of work for a mug of meaty flavoured liquid. Collagen supplements for me.

I’ve always loved a cup of Bovril. Apparently it was used by the old Victorian strongmen as a supplement to help stop fatigue. Add a bit of extra salt and a dollop of cream and sometimes some chilli flakes in the winter goodness in a mug

Never thought of putting cream in bovril, salt and chilli flakes I must try!

Try Walmart cheap.

(Ellen) #12

Probably not so cheap when factor in shipping from the US

(Jeff Nail) #13

Lol yeah wasn’t even thinking that.

(Steve ) #14

It’s lovely, makes it into a spicy, creamy soup

Bovril is 50% beef bone broth if you want high amounts of collagen just add some beef gelatin to the mug of hot water. gelatin is what the collagen turns into when you boil the bones and is what’s in the bone broth not collagen.
