Bolar roast - great for slow cooking and pulling

(Richard Morris) #1

CostCo has these for around $10/kg

We slow cook 'em, pull them and freeze them in 200g freezer bags (2 meals worth) that are quick to go from freezer to plate (via Microwave and frying pan), at about $1 a plate this is a very economical source of protein.

I’ve never heard of this cut. Does anyone know if it actually exists in the US? (I’ll be at CostCo buying 50 lbs of brisket for the Hanukkah blow-out later this week).

On a pig it’s called the Collar butt, or Boston butt

I’ve actually never seen these at Costco here. I’ll definitely go look this week. Maybe for us it’s a rump roast?

Also, totally jealous of your brisket, my dear Larry. Please eat some on my behalf.

Chowhound to the rescue - apparently it’s sirloin and costs way more for us per pound here.
