Body heat increase

(Dessie) #1

I am coming off a 3 day fast, and this is night 2 of very little to no sleep. I wake up at 1 am with my body extremely hot, like hot and just wide awake. My room temp is set at 60 so this is not a cause, plus I’m in Oregon and we’re cold. Anyone have any experience in this? I’ve been Keto about 4 month done the 16:8 IF. But I don’t know what going on with my body, plus I’d like to sleep.

I don’t have an answer but my experience is quite the opposite. I’m cold all the time.

I WISH. I’m cold all the time and hoping keto normalizes that. Hope someone else has an answer for you!

@Dezlou: You don’t mention your age or gender. You couldn’t possibly be just starting menopause?

Oh no, I’m 36 female. I’m thinking maybe thermogenics? Maybe the 3 day fast did something there.

Norepinephrine often rises during the first few days of fasting, especially in leaner individuals. Norepinephrine rises in response to low blood sugar. It stimulates gluconeogenesis and lipolysis boosting energy and ramping up metabolism. This typically only lasts a few days.

I have definitely been experiencing this.

I strip down to one thin layer while figure skating now, whereas when I first got back into skating when I went keto, as you can see in my profile photo, I had a thick vest and a couple layers on.

I used to have to keep my portable heater on in my room all night. Then I was also waking up at 1 AM and too hot and had to turn it off. Now I have to switch it off before I go to sleep.

My core body temp doesn’t seem to have increased, but my perception of being warm has definitely changed!

How’s your salt intake? Night time “distress” is often you wanting salt. I realize that temp and electrolites seem unrelated but if the brain makes a bunch of adrenaline or cortisol then who knows what will result.

I would like to think pretty good, as I make sure to take electrolytes and add salt to my water. But I will try some salt water before bed tonight

Here’s a post I did about body heat stuff - not due to extended fasting, just IF - and my salt levels were/are great in terms of morning & evening saltwater intake, as well as generous sea salt on food, etc.

i had trouble sleeping being hot and horny during my if. I started planning my eating time before bed and that helped.
