Bocca Sweet, any feedback?

I could only find one mention of Bocca Sweet on this forum, saw a recipe that called for it and looked it up, has anyone here tried it? It claims no insulin rise…curious if that’s held true for those that tried it out. I am not really looking for sweetener for myself, but have been trying to find something that is not grown on an allergenic food like corn or wheat that might help my family transition towards low carb eating

Yeah, I hit a wall trying to find out exactly what it is. All I could find is it’s a proprietary blend and a 5 carbon sugar. Most Kombucha recipes I’ve seen use regular refined sugar to feed the Scoby. Maybe it’s converted into an inert sugar? I don’t know it’s the first time I’ve heard of Bocha Sweet. I use allulose (just ordered a bag for the holidays and to make Cowboy Candy. It’s made from corn I believe. I don’t know if there’s any residual allergens left.

Is erythritol out? That’s my second favorite. I don’t use the bitter back bite stuff like stevia or monk fruit. What about Xylitol? I don’t use sweeteners much, that bag will be around most of the year. :cowboy_hat_face:

Monkfruit seems to be very healthy as a sweetener because it has many beneficial properties other than just making something sweet?

Unfortunately, I had a major allergic reaction to erythritol (throat swelling shut reaction), I felt it was probably due to my corn allergy. I haven’t tried allulose yet. I was absolutely fine as far as I could tell with the small amount of xylitol in the Mammoth Creamery ice cream, but I generally avoid it after seeing accounts of it spiking insulin for some people…I tried to make the kids sweet tea with it once LOL  they were NOT fans!

I don’t mind monk fruit (and when I tried a small amount didn’t have any negative reaction), but I can only find the liquid one that is erythritol free so far, I am hoping to find something that would work in baked good recipes too!

I’ve decided to give allulose a try, ordered last night from Amazon and found a sweet tea recipe for the family…it’s gotta taste better than Stevia does to them

The allulose arrived super quick, I made the family sweet tea…my youngest child cried…sadly, not because it tasted bad, but he said it didn’t taste like anything, it was tea-water. The allulose definitely took away the bitter notes of the tea that otherwise would have existed, but it didn’t actually taste sweet, which is what bothered him  I feel like a failure as a parent, it breaks my heart as I know I demonstrated a seriously unhealthy relationship with sweets pre-Keto. I can only pray that over time my example of healthful food choices consistently will change things for my kids and my favorite-half too.

FYI to anyone who has a corn allergy…the Keystone Pantry brand is cultivated on cornstarch - had a ridiculous mouth reaction after one tiny taste of tea everyone was whining about :rage: I am totally over finding a sweetener, monk fruit seems to be the only sweetener I don’t react to, the family poo-poos all of them. I need to step away from trying to convert them briefly at least before I lose my ever-living-loving mind!!!
