Blood monitor

(Jane McPhail) #1

Hi I hope someone can help.
I have been on a keto diet for 2 months now(with a weeks break at Christmas) and have lost 14lbs. Last week I bought a blood monitor and am worried that my average level for the last 7 days has been 4.9mmo/l What am I doing wrong? and how do I get my level down to the optimum?

Thanks

What is your blood monitor measuring glucose or ketones… although actualy 4.9mmol/l is great for glucose and amazing for ketones… so what are you worrying about?

Thanks for the reply.
Just realised it may be glucose, I stupidly thought mmo/l was a measurement of ketones? How do you convert it so that I know my ketone levels? I’m eating a strict 20 g of carbs a day in an 8 hour window but haven’t lost any weight for a couple of weeks?

Well its handy to know what you are measuring… what is the name of the meter?
Blood glucose and ketones are 2 different things… there are some meters that can measure both but most just do blood glucose. There is no “conversion” because they are two different things.

Oh dear. I think I’ve bought the wrong thing😕 the clue is in the title, ‘glucozen’. Can you recommend a good ketone monitor?
Thanks

I have this one

The meter is free and the ketones strips work out to be £1 per test which is about the cheapest I have found.
