Hey fellow Canadian Ketoers- does anyone have a good blood ketone metre that they were able to purchase online and have delivered here? Or does anyone in Vancouver know where to buy a good one locally?

Abbott Labs will send you one for free. Here is a link – click on the coupon.
I ordered one and it came in the mail for free – no shipping charges. They get their money back with the price of the strips! I think it just came with a few glucose test strips but you can buy the ketone strips at London Drugs – they may not have them in stock at your local store but they can get them for you in a day or so.

Wellness.ca sells blood ketone meter and strips (I think it may be for the freestyle model though not sure). I work at a pharmacy and we can order them in (we don’t carry them) so any pharmacy should be able to order one in for you. I’m just not sure if you need a prescription to buy strips? I guess not if you are going to pay for them, I think that’s just if you want 3rd party insurance to cover them (blood glucose strips anyway - I’ve never had any of our customers ask for ketone ones).

I don’t need a prescription for the strips but don’t have insurance that might cover them so I pay for them.

That makes sense. Almost everyone at our pharmacy has their diabetic supplies covered so I wasn’t sure.

It might be tougher finding a doctor that will write a prescription for ketone strips unless you are a type 1 diabetic.
