Blood ketone levels?

#1

Hi all,

I just started the ketogenic diet about a few weeks ago. I got curious to test my blood ketone levels and have tested them twice. The readings read 4.6 mmol/l and 5.2. I’ve read that the optimal range is 1.5-3.0 for ketosis. Can anyone shed some light on why this seems so high and is this anything to worry about? I can’t find much information on Google.

From what I understand, your body hasn’t learned how to USE those ketones well yet so the amount in your blood is high. Once your body is using them more, your blood readings should go down.

Hope I got that right and that you get answers from more experienced members.

So what that typically means is you are keto adapted, your liver is making more than you are using. Nothing to worry about some people would kill to have those levels so enjoy it.
