Blood ketone levels

(Suzanne Barton) #1

I have been ketoing for 10 weeks now. Monday 7-3 I started measuring my blood ketone levels.
Monday and Tuesday they were 3.5 and 3.8 but today the reading was 2.2. Does that mean my body is finally starting to use them for energy?
Today is first day on keto that I woke up withou alarm clock and didn’t have to drag myself out of bed.
Also in a good even mood despite all the stress facing me at work, so I am super hopeful I’ve finally gotten into the fat adapted phase!

Mine dropped after adaptation, but I had a lot of confounds like I was becoming non-diabetic, and going off Statins, doing more exercise, and eating less food in general. Now I have been keto for 3 years my range is really low - like 0.2-0.8 mmol/l, but there is no doubt I am in ketosis.

Yup I can agree with that - on keto I need less hours of sleep.[quote=“Suzanneb, post:1, topic:15084”]

Also a great sign. I appear to be able to deal with a lot more stress now.

Yea! That makes me super happy!
Thanks for info!!
It’s been a long, sometimes hard, journey but well worth it!!
I :sparkling_heart: Keto!!!

I think the body gets better at using ketones and that is why your blood meter shows a lower level. There is speculation also, that the body gets better at producing them at a lower level due to need.

They can vary greatly day to day as well, you’re probably going to need a couple of weeks numbers to see where you’re at.

It varies massively hour by hour too. My lowest readings are after I’ve finished training which I’m sure is a good indicator that my body is using them as I want it to

Yea! I’m super excited. I did exercise this morning (14 minutes HIIT on exercise bike) and walked my dog but I do those things pretty much daily

Hi. Everyone, I could use some guidance. My wife’s blood ketones keep going up and last measurement was 7.2 using the precision xtra. She is 1.5 weeks into the keto diet and is usually around 10-15 net carbs per day. She is 5’0" tall and weighs 105 lbs. She typically eats 110g of fat per day and 75g of protein though the day of this 7.2 reading she only had 34g protein. Since we started testing a couple of days ago her blood ketone levels were 3.6, 6.9, 5.2, then the 7.2. We checked her blood glucose and it was 69. Is any of this something to be concerned about? Why are her ketones so much higher than everyone else I read about? She says her stomach doesn’t feel the best and every now and then she says she feels like her heart is racing but when we check heart rate, it’s around low 70s. Her keto flu lasted about 3 days and was brutal for her with bad nausea and diareah, then she felt great, and now the past two days not feeling the best. Any help would be much appreciated.

Is your wife diabetic? If not, don’t worry. She must feel fantastic with ketones that high. I’d be more concerned about the very low level of protein…
