Blood Glucose Question

(Pamela) #1

Hi everyone! So glad I found this forum! I’m a newbie with a question. I’ve been on keto about 2-3 weeks. Only lost 6 lbs. my average Macros are 1387 calories, 107g Fat 25g Carbs, and 81g protein. I’ve been checking my BG first thing in the morning and it’s bee averaging 105-109ml. I do check it periodically throughout the day,and the lowest I’ve been is 95ml. Does it take some time to get your BG lower?? Any help or advice I would greatly appreciate!

Depending on you body, it could take time to regulate BG and other markers.
IMO I would stop counting calories and concentrate on keeping carbs under 20, protein a little lower and fat a little higher.

I second that.
Currently Fat constitutes roughly 50% of your diet. Try to crank them up quite a bit.

By the way 6 lbs lost in 3 weeks if not bad at all.
You’re doing good. Stay the course.

It does take time for your BG to normalize and everybody is going to be different. If you’re not familiar with Dr. Jason Fung, you can learn a lot about Type 2 diabetes, how the body regulates glucose, and pesky issues like high fasting glucose levels as in when you test first thing in the morning. Check out https://intensivedietarymanagement.com/dawn-phenomenon-t2d-8/ for great info on why this happens.

I’m in the same boat with you.
I’ve only lost 4 lbs in 2 weeks. I don’t test in the morning any longer bc my blood glucose is like yours. A few times I tested 86 before dinner. About 2 times so far. I am trying to lower my protein as well. At a soon to be 63, I’m staying the course. My doctor ordered a stress test in 2 weeks as part of my physical. All these lab tests will be my baseline. It can only get better after that ,right?
