Update 1: Five days in for a total of 14 pounds lost :)
Big Scott's Progress Thread
I guess that was kind of random, wasn’t it? Maybe I should write a bit more about me to start this thread off. I’m Scott. 32 years old. Detention Officer.
I grew up an athlete. Wrestling, football, and boxing. I played football (American) in college, and regret it. I took a football scholarship over my wrestling offers, and really wished I had gone wrestling.
I was about 270-280 playing college football, which put me on the lighter side for defensive tackles smile:
I cut down to 240 after I stopped playing football and concentrated on boxing and kickboxing. Had a great amateur competitive career. I felt great at that weight. I’m 6’4, and 240 was a good weight. I was running 5 miles as road work BEFORE training for 30-40 rounds (3 minute rounds, 30 second rest). My stomach was flat, and you could even see the line separating my abs LOL!
I got hurt training for my first pro fight. I felt lost. Gained 140 pounds. I’m 40 pounds down from my heaviest. My goal is 235-240.
My goal is to cut weight so I can get competitive in martial arts again (grappling) and move on from detention officer to police officer. I haven’t even applied yet, because I feel it’s irresponsible to do when I’m not physically in my best condition (if I gas out, someone gets away, etc – someone could die). I have beat the minimum time for the MPAT (our physical testing standard) but that isn’t good enough for me.
Anyway, just thought I’d introduce myself in my progress thread. 5 days down, 14 pounds lost isn’t bad. I know a lot of that is water weight, but that’s no big deal. My plan is to track fat/protein/carbs right now. I’m not cutting calories yet. I’ll eat when I’m hungry. In a few weeks, I’ll probably move on to a calorie limit. Then after some time, when I plateau, I’ll start doing OMAD (one meal a day).
As far as exercise - I do strength and conditioning sessions 4 times a week. I’m also going to start getting back into kick boxing and submission grappling within the next few months.
All right.
Update 2: Total carbs for today 14.2 grams (total, not net).
Congrats on the successful start, Scott! Although, you do know your progress so far is the type that causes us fat old ladies to have false expectations, right? 14 lbs in 5 days, even if it’s a lot of water weight, is crazy.
I think it takes me 3 MONTHS to lose 14 lbs.
Haha You also have to consider that I have a lot of weight to lose
Over 100 pounds. Also, I’m a naturally big guy at 6’4, so I proportionally carry much more water just based on size ratio!
Also, 14 pounds in 3 months is great That’s almost 60 in a year. That’s really not a bad rate. I’m expecting to slow weight loss significantly after the first month hahaha!
The other thing is that Keto just fits me like a glove. Last time I was on it, I didn’t feel hungry. Did a few 48+ hour fasts and it didn’t make a dent. I just really lose my hunger on it. After getting keto adapted, I have to have my wife remind me to eat.
Hi Scott! It sounds like you’re really motivated and conscientious. You’re off to a great start!
Welcome Scott.
I think your motivation and approach to keto is going to pay off for you and your community, once you become a police officer.
Update 3: Down another 3 pounds today - total of 17 lost in 6 days. I didn’t feel hungry. I’m about to sit down and eat dinner. I’m back on OMAD I guess LOL!
Update 4: Today didn’t quite go so well. I didn’t add up my carbs until after my dinner meal. YIKES! I had 21 TOTAL gram of carbs, and 9 net grams of carbs. A little higher than I’d like to see.
Honestly, I didn’t get the keto flu this time around, outside of some stomach issues, which seem to have corrected themselves. No clue why. I got hit last time pretty good. This time, I’m doing fine. Didn’t check the scale today. I have to force myself to do it once a week, otherwise I’ll step on it 6 times a day, and that’s not healthy mentally when I know weight fluctuates during the day, and it’s overall trends we need to record.
I’m feeling good. Downside: my wife is pregnant and she sure as hell isn’t doing keto (I don’t blame her). So I have to go downstairs and see cakes, bagels, all types of breads, and all that stuff staring me in the face! Haha, I’ve got pretty good discipline, so I’m not too worried about it. Haven’t cheated (day 7 now) and I don’t plan on it. I know it gets easier as the weeks go by, and so far hasn’t been hard anyway.
Breakfast: 2 pieces of bacon, 3 eggs fried in the bacon fat + HOT SAUCE!!!
Dinner: Taco Salad - 70/30 ground beef (8 ounces), romaine lettuce (1/2 a head…err whatever they call it for romaine), 1.5 oz of diced tomatoes, 3 oz sour cream, hot sauce to taste (I like my hot sauce hahahaha)
Snack: Coffee with 2 ounces heavy whipping cream.
I’m loving this. Even if no one reads this, it’s like a nice little outlet. I have my total carbs/fat/protein, but they’re downstairs in my journal.
Have a good day everyone I’m gonna go lurk on these forums, maybe contribute if I can to some conversations!!!
Update 5: Today went well. I ate chicken. Literally, just about 4 chicken thighs. Well, actually I had coffee with heavy creamer in it, too. Not much to say, really.
Oh, it can be a pain when your pregnant wife eats cake in front of you. Luckily I have a job where I’ve developed excellent patience, like having people threaten to find my family, murder them, and other horrific things just because I’m booking them in. And I have to stay stone faced during the entire thing. I’ve got patience.
I haven’t weighed myself in a few days. I will in a few days, so no worries there. I didn’t get the keto flu this time, which is curious. I’m 9 days in, and didn’t get it, so I’m not to worried.
Well, later everyone.
