BHB Powder Failure, but C8 Oil for the WIN!

(Kirk Wolak) #21

You said a GKI of 7.9 with a Ketone reading of 2.7

GKI = Glucose/18/Ketones (If using US and not the A1C type units (european/metric))

Assuming 128 for the Glucose, I get
GKI = 128/18/0.9= 7.9

So there was confusion. The math did not work for me (I am a math minor, and I make plenty of math errors myself).

But NOW you say ketones were 0.9 (Then it makes sense, boost his ketones).
But honestly you should be striving to get the glucose below 100 as well… But that can take a while…

Supplementing works, and her ketones worked for me. I use them when I do endurance stuff while fasting… But I started with a small amount first… Then I upped it.

I get it now though…

From your Post

Yeah I see where I goofed. The 2 paragraphs you pointed out were separate days. The first one was what motivated me to order the ketones in a can. The 2nd was after we’d gotten then and just before he took a scoop of it.
These are the numbers he had then
BG 107 / 5.9
Ketones 2.7
GKI 2.2
Dr Boz ratio 39.6

2.7 aint bad for ketones. Is that fasting? For how long?

Is your hubby able to walk a bit. I do a loop around the neighborhood. It burns up some glycogen, lowers my glucose and tends to boost my ketones over time.

(Cancer Fighting Ketovore :)) #24

I’m amazed at your base ketone numbers!
Those are nice. Are those normal for you?

(Failed) #25

He’s on oxygen, so a lot of exercise isn’t happening. Yes, all of those were fasting.

After I originally posted, he took another dose of caprylic acid/mct oil.

About 2 1/2 hours after the second dose:
BG 92 / 5.1
Ketones 3.4
GKI 1.5
Dr Boz ratio 27.1

I need get my ketones up to those levels consistantly

(Failed) #27

My ketone numbers for today were higher and the glucose lower.
Here’s a screenshot of my tracking spreadsheet. I got the keto mojo just recently.

I hope this gives you the info you asked for.

(Cancer Fighting Ketovore :)) #28

Did you start using the exogenous ketones around the 4th? I see that’s when your ketones improved.

(Kirk Wolak) #29

Wow, those are AWESOME numbers…
I Love how his glucose is coming down.
To me, this is his liver healing.

How are his symptoms? How is he feeling?

(Cancer Fighting Ketovore :)) #30

I believe those are her numbers

(Failed) #31

I’ve never taken exogenous ketones, just caprylic acid. Although the caprylic acid is quickly turned into ketones, it doesn’t start out that way.

I had been taking 2 or 3 caprylic acid off and on for a few days, but not a decent amount or consistently until today.

I edited my first post so no one else gets confused.

(Cancer Fighting Ketovore :)) #33

Sorry about the confusion on the exogenous ketones and the caprylic acid. I may try taking some to see what works best. But isn’t caprylic acid technically an exogenous ketone, since it also has MCTs?

What item did you find works best for you?

(Failed) #34

His numbers ARE coming down nicely, just don’t have a lot of data on him yet.

He started keto around July 4th and at 185, is at his lowest weight in many years. He, like me, is tired all the time since starting keto. Hopefully the mct oil is the key to feeling better.

He had a huge beer belly, all the fat carried inside his abdomen, whereas mine is all outside my abdominal wall. He’s lost several inches on his belly, so that’s encouraging.

(Failed) #35

Sorry, I don’t know what you’re asking.

Regarding mct oil being ketones, I don’t think that’s the case. Ketones are Beta Hydroxybutyrate, but mct oil is an 8 chain (caprylic acid) or sometimes 10 chain (capric acid) triglyceride that your body can break apart to create Beta Hydroxybutyrate.

If that’s incorrect, maybe @CaptainKirk can correct me.

(Cancer Fighting Ketovore :)) #36

Yes, but of the things you bought and tested, which raised your ketones the most?

(Failed) #37

Definitely the caprylic acid/mct oil. The bhb powder did nothing at all.

AND the caprylic acid/mct oil also lowered both of our BGs.

I’ve changed the title of the thread because it was misleading.

(Cancer Fighting Ketovore :)) #38

OK. I may just try using the oil I have and then switch to testing the caprylic acid capsuls…

(Failed) #39

The oil should be exactly the same as the capsules and is MUCH less expensive. The only reason I ended up with gelcaps is because when I bought them I had no idea what mct oil was or that that’s what was in them. I bought them because I remembered that I had taken caprylic acid many years ago to fight candida, so that’s what I bought.

I have a 32 oz bottle on it’s way and will be using that, saving the gelcaps for when they need to be portable.

(Cancer Fighting Ketovore :)) #40

And how much of the oil are you taking at a time?
