Beyond Burger Vs Regular Burger for a Meat Eater

#1

For someone such as myself who has no issue eating meat, and is doing keto… Is there any benefit to these beyond burgers popping up in some restaurants lately? Or is it simply to be an option for vegetarians?

I was thinking about trying one just to try it… But I was wondering if outside of the curiosity factor, if it would potentially be better/worse for me in any way.

Ground beef contains…beef. Delicious and nutritious.

This stuff contains… Water, Pea Protein Isolate, Expeller-Pressed Canola Oil, Refined Coconut Oil, Contains 2% or less of the following: Cellulose from Bamboo, Methylcellulose, Potato Starch, Natural Flavor, Maltodextrin, Yeast Extract, Salt, Sunflower Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Dried Yeast, Gum Arabic, Citrus Extract (to protect quality), Ascorbic Acid (to maintain color), Beet Juice Extract (for color), Acetic Acid, Succinic Acid, Modified Food Starch, Annatto (for color).

Beef contains 0g carbs. This stuff contains 5g carbs, 3g fiber.

I’ll stick to good ol beef.

Luckily you’re not a cat if you’re feeling curious. :joy:

I would eat real food. Not something posing as real food.

Haha I think I knew the answers I’d get before I even asked but just thought it would be interesting to hear what people had to say

the only issue I have with burgers is oils and omega 6

I can feel it right away.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #6

Troublemaker!

(You’re going to fit in here just fine . . .)

I’ll eat it as a part of a social setting where vegetarian friends may be coming over for dinner and we want to make something they feel comfortable eating. (We’ve done that several times and used Beyond Burger. It’s one of the few fake meats that don’t cause us severe reactions at our house so we can eat a little with them.)

As far as eating it on purpose, or for any health reason, no. I’ll stick with being a little picky about real meat and continue in that direction. But that’s just my opinion.

For somebody who wants to cut back on red meat, will you be able to achieve a decent level of ketosis while eating the Beyond Burger? I’m on day 4 with a 0.6mmol/L today - maybe I’ll test in 24 hours to see what the impact is on my newly emerging ketosis.
