Best dark chocolate to buy?

(Jo) #21

Anyone know where to get cacao butter locally? I cannot find it anywhere in stores around Frederick, Maryland. I guess I’ll have to order it online.

Second question for those of you how make their own chocolate bar - is there a taste difference between bars made with cacao powder and some kind of fat (butter, coconut) or bars made with cacao butter and cacao powder? Is the mouthfeel different? Does it taste better?

I’m just trying to convince myself that I have to special order the cacao butter , because life is useless without it, :grinning:

ChocZero on Amazon, or their website. It is a bit pricy, but it is wonderful. The Keto Bark is wonderful!

Yes, I’d say better with the cacao butter, best with ghee as the added fat

Continuing the discussion from Best dark chocolate to buy?:

I like Middlebury Chocolates 100%. It is the smoothest 100% chocolate I’ve tried, and I’ve tried many brands.

Barandcocoa.com is a good place to get high quality chocolates, a little pricy, but a bar lasts awhile one square at a time.

I’ve seen Montezuma’s Absolute Black bars at Trader Joe’s, but I love the Lindt 90% bars so much, I never tried the Montezuma’s. Guess I’ll have to pick one up on my next visit to Trader’s, which will be tomorrow.

Lindt 90% is my favorite. Trader Joe’s 85% is a good bar and was my go to before I discovered the Lindt 90%.

Will 85% keep you in ketosis, some of these bars have a small amount of sugar in them

I usually buy multiple 85 % (not 90, can’t handle that or anything above 85% really) chocolate bars, and usually Lindt is the worst during my taste tests. But the differences are small. I like a stone-ground Mexican chocolate the best, but it’s hard to find.

Some of these have soy lecithin added to them.

I can stay in ketosis with these, as long as I don’t eat too much. I usually only eat them 1-2 times per week though. They’re actually quite expensive, too.
