Being fat adapted?

(Dut) #1

Suppose to cut down the fats?

(John) #2

Yes.

(Dut) #3

No more butter and avacados needed?

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #4

Eat to satiety. That means stop eating when you stop being hungry, which is long before you can no longer cram in another morsel.

(Dut) #5

Ok so not fat needed?

(bulkbiker) #6

depends…you need to define what you mean by fat not needed…

(Dut) #7

Like butter and avacodos

(bulkbiker) #8

Butter and avocados are fine providing you are following the fewer than 20 of carbs per day and the eat until satisfied.
Just don’t overeat them though… Although overeating butter is quite hard as you’ll be sick!

(Dut) #9

I’m on a 48 hour fast. Got 8 more hrs to go

(bulkbiker) #10

So are we talking about re-feeding or?

(Dut) #11

I’m not sure. Was wondering if should cut off fats. So should I eat less re feeding?

(bulkbiker) #12

If you only started a month ago you might not be fully fat adapted yet… what are you aiming for by following keto? Weight loss, general health, reversing T2 diabetes? Would be helpful to know.

(Dut) #13

Weight loss

(bulkbiker) #14

I’d carry on with the fats for a while…but eating to satiety. Maybe after 2 months start cutting back on the fats a bit. How old are you?

(Dut) #15

I thot all signs that I have is fat adaption

(Dut) #16

I am 36

(bulkbiker) #17

OK so significantly younger than most…in that case try cutting down on the fat and see what happens maybe eat more protein and fat combined (rather than simply lean meats) see if your weight loss resumes. I presume you are fasting to get through a “stall” ?

(Dut) #18

Yes lol. I did 16 8. Then 18 6. Now on a 48 hour fast. I also cut out the cheese. I was eating alot of cheese too

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #19

Time to fat-adaptation is variable, but generally happens within six to eight weeks after beginning a ketogenic diet. It’s different from being in ketosis, which happens almost immediately, certainly within a couple of days. Fat-adaptation involves certain hormonal shifts at the cellular level, shifts which take a certain amount of time. At that point, the muscles start using fatty acids, rather than ketones (which are partially-metabolized fatty acids), freeing up the ketones (and what little glucose the other cells of the body actually need) for the cells that can’t handle fatty acids.

It might take some experimenting to figure out how much to lower your fat after you are adapted. I found that lowering my dairy and making nuts a rare treat didn’t affect my hunger at all and the scale moved quite nicely for me. I think if you have the idea to not make fat a part of your every bite of food, you will do just fine.
