Being fat adapted?

(Dut) #21

Yea I cut out the cheese didn’t make a difference

(Carl Keller) #22

this is in your profile:

How much weight I’ve lost: 19
When I began Keto: January 4th 2019

So you’ve lost 19 pounds in 39 days. That is amazing so I think your expectations might be a little high. Even if you haven’t lost a pound in the past week, I don’t think it’s fair to say something is not working.

(Dut) #23

Oh I actually lost total of 28 pounds since Jan 4th now

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #24

You sly dog! You’d better be jumping up and down for joy over that—you have no right to complain, hear? That’s four pounds a week—nothing to worry about there! :+1:

(John) #25

Yes, but what about butter and avocados?

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #26

The butter and the avocadoes can complain all they want. Just not Dut :smile:

(John) #27

I suddenly have a craving for thin sliced avocados pan sauteed in butter…

(Dut) #28

I was eating 3 avacodos a day now cut it down to 2 lol

(Dut) #29

Yes but I wasn’t losing 4 pounds a week tho

(John) #30

They’re actually kind of high in carbs, even though they are pretty healthy foods overall. I’d shoot for max of one avocado per day. Westman’s Page 4 food list says 1/2 avocado per day max.

I tend to eat about one per month. Though I usually throw out 2 per month because they got over-ripe before I felt like eating one.

I use butter for cooking and as a flavoring for some vegetables, but I don’t just eat pure butter (or put it in coffee - blech).

(Dut) #33

Yes was wondering if I’m suppose to cut down on the fats after being adapted

(Dut) #34

I was only eating so many just to hit the high fat

(John) #35

In that case, yes, you can stop the avocados and butter. Unless you like eating them.

Generally speaking, I would say that if you are asking which macro to cut down on:

  • Carbs
  • Protein
  • Fat

Then - yes, fat would be the answer.

  • Carbs should be minimized
  • Protein is determined in formulas - just pick one you think fits you
  • Fat is what you vary

But if you are asking if you should cut down on fat regularly - I think not.
Too little fat and your body might start slowing metabolism.
You should have high days and low days.

The calorie game might be “I should have more on workout days to keep up with my burn”.
The hormone game might be “I should have less on my (cortisol spiking) workout days to avoid having lots of fat around when my hormones want to store it”.
The calorie game might be wrong - think more like training fasted and eating extra fat on non-workout days to drive metabolism when it might otherwise slow.

(Dut) #37

So I don’t need the 70% in fats anymore?

(John) #38

See post 2.

Avocados have carbs

(Dut) #41

Yes I know that

(Mel Simpson) #43

12 grams of carbs for 1
Buddy was eating 3 avocados a day.
However still losing a crazy amt of weight so if you like them eat them. They are one of the most nutritious fruits you can eat.
