I made beef bone broth for the first time yesterday in my Instant Pot. I cooked it about 6 hours under pressure and then on low for awhile. The broth turned out great. When I was done the bones were still very hard so I decided to cook them again with fresh water. This time I cooked them about 7 hours under pressure then on keep warm another 4, just because that’s when I got home from work. Again the broth had a nice rich brown color and flavor, bones still hard. I strained them and threw them in the pot again. Still waiting to see what I get out of this.
This is my first time making beef broth. I got the bones from a butcher. Before he sliced it up, it looked like 2 knuckles and the marrow bone between them. It was about 6 pounds.
My question is how long do you keep cooking beef bones? I’ve only done chicken before and I cook them until they are soft and mashable. Do you keep cooking beef bones until they are soft? I might have the answer to my own question tonight if this last batch in the pressure cooker doesn’t have any flavor!
Thanks!
