I have been reading peoples posts about how they tend to… go alot… or how bad it can be…but what about the other side of that… when your not going… what do you suggest for that?
Bathroom issues...đź‘€
Aside from the obvious things like keeping properly hydrated and your salt up to keto levels to maintain electrolytes, MCT oil will get you going! Keep in mind especially at first make the determination whether your NOT going… or you CAN’T go! Most people don’t have as many movements when they go keto simply because we waste less.
Magnesium citrate tablets. If 2 is the normal dose, 4 will smooth things way out. Also, will relieve calf cramps.
I’m afraid I’ve not tried the malate form.
I’ve only otherwise considered magnesium glycinate as far as tablets go.
Constipation is one of the symptoms of low sodium. You need to increase your salt intake and drink to thirst.
Mag maglate gives me the runs. I even tried 1/2 pill and it gets me. So am looking for a different format as my magnesium supplement.
I’m going to chime in because I had constipation issues a few months ago. Since then, I have a very small 1/4 cup of Fiber One cereal with a heaping spoon of flax seed. (I read where the flax is soluble and the fiber one was insoluble) I also put about a teaspoon of Myrelax, then some milk or 1/2 & 1/2 just enough to get it wet.
This has kept me going. It’s a slight bit hard and relatively small movement first thing in the morning but doesn’t require straining. Perhaps it the Myrelax but a couple hours after 1st movement there is a second, much softer and urgent enough to make sure I don’t try to hold it. Even at that, my wife complains that she has to use bleach in my undies because I “mark” them. This despite using the shower with a hand held spray to tidy up back there.
I also use salt. I like food salty. However, of late, I notice my socks are leaving an indentation in my calves like I’m holding water. I’m not sure if I’m using too much or too little salt. I used to take Magnesium every day and potasium but have backed off on the mag to see if that is affecting water retention.
It’s just sitting in my cupboard - I already have that problem at times, but thanks for the extra warning. There is a thread on here about some type of magnesium that is better than others for preventing that problem.
Constipation is a common problem for people new to Keto, I agree with Paul you can probably put a lack of salt down to alot of it but also a lack of water ( I drink 2 liters a day), and there is definitely a slow down in the digestive system for several weeks. I went from being regular every day to constipated, to taking days to poop! It does settle down eventually, sure if you need to take something to help it along until then I’m all for it. No need to be uncomfortable and let it put you off Keto.
