For anyone into taking free Uni courses online, there is a 3-week course called “Autophagy: Research Behind the 2016 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine” offered via edX from the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
I’ve done week 1. I found it very interesting, but I’m not a scientist, so it may be old hat to the scientific community in this forum. References are provided also, so more in-depth reading can follow.
As is usually the case in these things, the course is indeed free, but if you want a certificate that demonstrates that you completed the course it will cost you ($45 I think)
Autophagy: A (free) course being offered via edX just available
Sorry, I didn’t post a link because I didn’t use a link. I have the edX app (I use an iPhone) and I found it via searching courses that I was interested in.
However, I just did a google search of ‘edX courses autophagy’ and this came up, so I’m going to assume it will work.
Mind blown. edX is a thing. Chris, thanks so much for posting this, I had no idea this quantity of free education could be supported by students who want CPE credits.
Are there any other nutrition courses you’ve taken there and recommend? Any experience with Wageningen University’s stuff?
The amount of free access is awesome, isn’t it? And edX isn’t the only source of this type of resource info. Just google free university courses and all sorts of links come up.
I’m afraid I have no experience with any other nutrition courses. I’ve been entertaining myself with philosophy and psych courses. It was just recently that I thought I’d do a search for the nutrition field. I’ve just started a course offered by Wageningen (Nutrition and Health: Macronutrients and Overnutrition), so too early to tell.
One course that I’m excited about is “Food as Medicine” - offered by Monash University via FutureLearn… it’s available now, but I’ve signed up for the offering that begins Oct 8, because I have a lot on my plate right now and want to make sure I have time to devote to this one.
Here is the link to that one: https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/food-as-medicine
That’s the Wageningen course I’m interested in so I’d love to read your evaluation and see if you decide to take their micronutrient course also. Food as Medicine sounds good as well, I think I’ll stack that after the two Wageningen courses.
I’ve finished the first module of the Wageningen course… well organized and well presented.
However, I made the mistake of glancing into the discussion room… and the shit-storm over Keto and LCHF eating was unreal. I backed out and will not read or participate in any of the discussions… turns out 40,000 “students” are enrolled … the instructors reaction video to the “discussions” was to recommend people completely ignore Mercola (due to lack of science-was the reason given) and trust the AMA and American Diabetes Assiciation (um… no?? ) because of their well reasearched information.
I’m going to continue with the course as a silent student… get what I can from the science they do present… as I said, the first module (on research design) was good information.
