Happy Meal-less Monday if you are fasting

I am at 15 hours and hoping that even though I am right next to the kitchen it’s a pretty easy day. Two things in my favor. My tummy is still upset from the two spoonfuls of ice cream last night and I have a dentist appointment later in the day.

I don’t want my mouth to be sore, but perhaps it will discourage me from eating if it is.

Either way I have my fasting crutches if needed and my coffee and I am ready to fast on!

Wishing all a wonderful week!

After some impromptu fasts last week (more like skipped meals because I was too busy) I went a little overboard with some re-feeding on Friday and Saturday, which showed up on the scales Sunday morning.

So I fasted yesterday and continuing on today. Probably at about 36 hours now, considering that I nibbled into the evening hours on Saturday.

I really needed it, too. Yesterday I got pretty hungry towards dinner time and powered through it with several types of tea and some decaf coffee. But by later evening, no problems. I find my eating triggers sometimes need a tug on the leash to get back under my conscious control.

This morning, however, I’m feeling fine with just a couple of cups of black coffee, no real hunger. So I’m just rolling with it.

I have a busy work week ahead, which would usually make it really easy to fast. But a co-worker is in town and may want to go out to eat while here, so I may end up breaking it later today.

(Cancer Fighting Ketovore :)) #64

That’s a good question. I’m not entirely sure. I use it pretty much every night, and usually don’t see these results.

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #65

Okay ~21 hrs fasted. Stomach has felt more empty than before. Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me. Evening is usually easier than during the day and I’m approaching the evening hours so I’m setting my site on sleep and morning. They will take it another day at a time.

I’m still thinking ~70 hrs is the goal.

Happy fasting all.

Yay Eric!!

Me too and I am only shooting for 42h or so. I just finished a glass of keto-ade because I was really feeling a strong urge to eat. Hopefully my upcoming visit to the dentist will be a good distraction LOL

(Cancer Fighting Ketovore :)) #67

I tried to have a similar meal today at lunch as yesterday’s dinner, except that I omitted the chicken

Time (hrs) BG BK GKI
T0 98 0.8 6.8
T1 94 1.4 3.7
T2 98 1.7 3.2
T4 76 3.1 1.4

*I’ll edit as I add data points
*Tomorrow I may try eliminating the MCT cream, as I call it to see what effect that has

*It’s looking like a similar response, but due to the higher starting BG my ketones are lower overall
** Wow, wasn’t expecting that much of a drop, but I’m pleased!

How to compromise between keeping ketone-levels high and not losing weight?
(Kristin) #68

@daddyoh, I’m on my way to a multi day fast too! 26hrs down shooting for 4 days but like you taking it one day at a time. This is my first fast during work so I am not sure what to expect but usually day 1 is most difficult and today was really easy!

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #69

@kristen Yea. I find fasting at work easier than home. But everyone is different.

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #70

34 hrs fasted and sleep was very good for a fasting night. 7 1/2 hrs of sleep.

Headed to the gym in a few mins. Volumetric upper body resistance training. My volumetric days are easier than training to failure because I don’t want to stimulate hunger.

Now for the first cup of coffee.

(John) #71

Ended up stopping last night after about 46 hours. I could have kept going. I wasn’t feeling hungry but had low energy and just felt like it was time to break it.

Hope everyone else is doing well with their efforts.

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #72

Sometimes it just feels right to stop.

I’m at 39 hours and getting ready to take some salt. Doing good so far. Got a busy work day ahead and that helps.

(John) #73

I agree. I seem to have dialed in my “sweet spot” as 36 hours. That is long enough where I do have to focus on managing eating triggers and getting to where hunger is properly re-synced with body needs. Longer than that I tend to start feeling cranky and just tired. I have done a couple of 60-ish hour fasts and those felt too long.

(Mame) #74

Yay and me too! meal-less Monday was a success.

I took my numbers at 530am - bg=65, bk=5.1, gki=0.7

I will break around 130pm, so around 44 hours.
Seems a shame to not go until the evening but I have 2 lunch/work events mid-afternoon and I did my heavy lifting workout at 630am. This frequently makes me useless at work afternoon and really hungry for lunch
I had my fourth ‘new low’ on the scale this morning,

Can’t believe it is only Tuesday. Wishing everyone well with their plan this week.

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #75

Mame - wow. Great GKI.

(Jason ) #76

Wow, great thread! I am going to join in tonight and skip my OMAD and carry it over into a multiday fast. I don’t really have a target for length of fast right now, but let’s say 48 hours, which will be Wednesday at 7 PM. Thanks for the thread, and I enjoy reading about your successes.

One question; what is Boz in your results section, @daddyoh?

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #77

There are two ways to measure how deeply you “might” be in autophagy. The GKI ratio (Glucose Ketone Index) and the Dr Boz Ratio. Dr Boz is https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLGu62anfPbFDkdQj0p-hQw Annette Bosworth. Just an easier calculation

BG/BHB - mg/dl / mmol/dl
GK BG/18/BHB mg/dl /18/ mmol/dl

(Mame) #78

although since I am a big ol’ math nerd I divide my BG by 18.02,

(Jason ) #79

@daddyoh Ah, she just does the GKI without doing the conversion for molecular weight. Gotcha. So same answer, different scale, and lower is still better?

@cervyn, take it on out to the full 18.0156! Haha…

Thanks, all. I appreciate it.

(KCKO, KCFO) #80

@dadyoh
Just wanted to thank you for mentioning the GKI. It got me started in tracking mine a bit, not daily but randomly throughout the week. Very helpful tool for managing oneself.I had never done it before, but my husband now does the pricks for me, I’m a needle phobic person, and my new breathalyzer helps keep me on track more now.

36,000 seizures later. I went keto to see if it would help with my epilepsy. Intractable refractory daily for 50 years, and they stopped. I came here to share this news. That therapeutically keto is an effective treatment as medicine. ketones are powerful stuff. no offense to anyone here but the diet is not just for weight loss and the message of life changing therapy to chronic disease gets lost in flood of 99 % of those on these forums.
I would encourage you to press this upon your husband before time gets him.
