Attack of the Munchies

(Brenna) #1

I sometimes get an attack of the munchies. Like right now. And I honestly don’t know what to eat. I’m tempted to eat yummy, yummy carbs. I haven’t been craving carbs until I’m sleepy like now. Or other activities that make me crave carbs.

any ideas?

Have lots of low carb snacks on hand. Almonds, pepperoni, cheese, etc.

*Edit - make sure you count the carbs when eating almonds, or any nuts though. It adds up

When that happens I eat salami. The high fat knocks a craving right out. Sometimes I’ll have it with a diet soda (diet drinks don’t effect me) to make it really feel indulgent.

ok. I will be getting lots of pastromi from the store then.

Your hormones are pouting. Give them a keto snack to calm them down like the others say. Snacking may not be recommended but if keeps you from relapsing, it’s worth it.

Almonds, pork rinds, cheese sticks, boiled eggs and even deviled eggs in small amounts got me past my cravings.

Pickles! Not only does it help with any electrolyte deficiencies, it’s hard to eat something sweet with a pickle. Bacon, cream cheese, a few olives…there’s actually quite a few things you can snack on that are all keto friendly.

It may sound weird, before I give in to a snack attack, I put a pinch of salt inside my lower lip. If I’m feeling hungry or tired due to a salt shortage, that takes care of it right away. If that doesn’t work, I go for a small high-fat bite, unless it’s close to my next planned meal. Then, I’ll just have my meal a bit early.

Pork crackle / pork rinds are my go to. The crunch, salt plus the protein/fat is satisfying.
Keep them in a container in a bag and munch when needed

Salt and fat then take a shower or run an errand and see how you feel in 20 mins. Hot drinks also help.

fizzy water works pretty well, if you can get 500-1000ml down you, this tends to help a craving pass, I also add some apple cider vinegar to it sometimes to give it some flavour.

I add Cajun spices to the bag of pork rinds. Gives them quite a kick.

She doesn’t eat pork! Or bears or wolves! Pastrami sounds great.

My favorite snacks:

But I don’t eat them near as much as I used to.

I just bought 1.5 pounds of sliced Pastrami and my son loves it more than I do, lolz.

One by one, I will convert the people of the world to pastrami. Welcome to the club.
