Vera are you in the US?
Ate too many carbs
State laws vary on minors being able to consent to mental health treatment and extent of confidentiality. My brief googling says in CA it could be as young as 12.
From what you’ve shared, I agree with some of the other posters. Find help. Maybe start with a counselor at school. or ask if there is a community mental health program where you live. This forum is a very supportive place. Nothing beats a face to face discussion with someone trained to help.
You need to get help ASAP.
I first realized I had a problem when I sat down and ate 3 pound of chocolate and didn’t even feel sick, an hour later I was carving up a huge bundt cake I’d made which contained 4 cups of sugar!
Going to the doctor for a regular checkup and asking to talk to doctor or nurse by yourself may help to get counseling and other resources in California.
In America, it is. Halo Top, for example puts the calorie count in huge font, per pint and not per serving, right on the package. On my Facebook feed, “Wink” also gives a carb count per the pint.
Local to me, there’s been a shift in the presence of non-dairy icecreams, with Halo Top and Ben & Jerry’s trying to take more of the market that previously was the domain of So Delicious, so the ice cream bars they make are now much harder to come by. I’ve stopped buying even their ice cream, since it’s somewhat difficult to stop once I’ve opened the container. It’s a hyperpalatable food by design, or rather an imitation thereof.
But it doesn’t also post, “Go ahead eat all of me, it’s normal” .
No, just no, it is not normal to eat a pint of any kind of ice cream in any country on earth, be it artificial or all natural.
A pint. Indeed, perhaps not “normal,” but you wouldn’t want to be in the same room with all the half-gallons of ice cream I ate in one sitting.
Vera, forced you? Did he tie you up and stuff the food down your throat? That would be forcing.
Or did he BULLY you? Just keeping at you till you ate? That person is the sick one. Do your parents know this happened? If it is a parent who bullied you, report him to the police, it fall under child abuse laws just about everywhere now.
At the very least report this to your school counselor who should know the resources available to help you.
Sorry this is happening to you and I hope it gets sorted out shortly. All the stress only confounds weight issues.
I think you are confusing “recommended” and “normal”
It is definitely not recommended but it is very normal. In fact it is stereotypically so for binge eaters which is why it is portrayed in pretty much every rom-com as the necessary rite of passage for the main character to demonstrate their depression during the inevitable mid-movie reversal of fortune.
It is just another example of the ‘recommended serving size is the whole package’ mentality that so many of us had before we gained control of our cravings. If I sat down with a pint and started eating from it I was exponentially more likely to finish it off in one sitting than if i scooped out a portion into a bowl. Especially when you look down and see the bottom half almost melted and say “I have to finish it now because I don’t like it when it refreezes all hard and icey like”
…is a setting on the dryer
…is relative
…is a matter of perspective
I am so grateful for the information you all share. The new information into my perspective helps me to choose different thoughts about food, about digestion, about how I’m interpreting/thinking about the signals from my body.
Like an alcoholic will describe ‘de-pickling’ their brain, I’m DeCarbing my thought processes!
I’ve asked my doctors about it but they say it wasn’t a big deal… and my mom got mad because she says it’s something that no one can resolve it but me
The people around me always say binge eating is bs
It’s not a normal eating behavior I believe everyone knows that. But it’s pretty “normal” for binge eaters especially severe binge eaters to even go through four pints of ice cream
I’ve tried so many times to get help but my mom would make me cancel the appointments because she would get mad and saying that it was bs to call for eating too much
I agree. So normally I will take the biggest value(recommended vs 100g, whichever is bigger = the one I choose. Which means, if recommended serving is 50g, I will use the value of 100g serving instead.)
erm… I have a crazier idea. Since your mother feels that eating too much is not a problem, then you just keep eating, even if you are very full, still keep eating. I think in that case, your family will finally find out that you have problem.
After all, eating much can be considered not a problem, but eating way too much to the level of non-stop cannot be ignored.
…
I tried those. Yuck. Return them. Also IIRC have a very large carb count - over 15 gm
Eat real food. Carry some cooked bacon instead
They know I keep eating and they do consider it a problem. They get super mad when they see me eat excessively which is now when I’m with them I eat normally and when I’m not I can’t help myself but to go all out and binge and I’m pretty sure that’s cuz I feel like I’m stressed because I can’t control at all anymore…
When I binge eat in front of them they get really really angry which does help but it puts stress on my body cuz I feel embarrassed and makes me wants to do it even more
