Really interesting study where they vaccinated mice to reduce LDLc and atherosclerosis. I’m curious as to what people think about this (by lowering LDLc they definitely see a drop in atherosclerosis) and to what the long term repercussions of such a treatment would be.

Same thing?

Looks like it.

I wonder what lovely side effects that will come with

AT04A vaccine induces an effective immune response against PCSK9 in APOE*3Leiden.CETP mice, leading to a significant reduction of plasma lipids, systemic and vascular inflammation, and atherosclerotic lesions in the aorta.

Looks like it’s targeting something new. Part of the immune response pathway in unhealthy adipose tissue? Maybe @richard or @erdoke can interpret the details.

[Ah no, looks like they’re going after the liver to reduce LDLc. Again. For people already taking maximum statins.]

APOE*3Leiden.CETP mice were used as a model for atherosclerosis
with a pro-inflammatory plaque phenotype that can be induced upon
high fat and cholesterol-containing diet.

And by high fat diet for mice they typically mean high fat and carbs. Mice react poorly to high fat and these look like they’ve been altered to be even higher risk. Interesting that they showed reduced inflammation and lesions though.
