Article about the dangers of the keto diet

I am not sure if this post goes here, but I thought it was the best spot for discussion. Google suggested this article for me. It starts out about how the person highlighted in the article had to quit this way of life due to the health risks…of headaches. Then it dives into all the mis conceptions that Carl and Richard talk about every week. For instance, how the body needs carbs or it will trigger a starvation response. After amost a month with very little carbs, I am not starving at all…hehe.

I am still relatively new to keto (a year researching or listening to the podcast and about a month really serious about modifying my eating habits) so I wanted to post here to make sure I understand this article and thought ensure my BS detector was working properly. :grinning:

I am interested in what you think of this article.

Thanks,
Bryan

After 2 months and 1 week on Keto, I feel great. I’m not starving because I’m still fat!

When eating keto ALL positive things in life are because of the WOE (Keto saved my dog from drowning in a river!) and ALL negative things in life are because of the WOE (Keto make my uncle blow his fortune in Vegas, and now he’s got nothing to fall back on!).

I imagine Atkins, Paleo, Weight Watchers etc. have all had their share of this, it does seem to be more extreme with this WOE, I wonder, is that because you have to overcome several stigmatisms/deeply held beliefs to join this party? Physiologically, when we “buy into” something or change our beliefs to support a new idea, we become even more ardent supporters of it, is that what could explain the “it’s all keto’s fault” syndrome?

This article is garbage. Zero understanding of what a well formulated keto diet consists of, everything about that post is ass backwards (no energy, unable to build muscle, causes depression, what?). Nobody with an understanding of keto would recommend a person “binge” on eggs and paneer. It is inherently more difficult to eat keto as a vegetarian (my opinion as an omnivore), but many people do so successfully. I suspect she needed to eat more food period if she was hungry all the time and adequate electrolytes and she probably would have felt great.

After reading the article it falls prey to the same primary error: Using sugar burner mentality and applying it for a keto lifestyle. Yes, all those grains and veggie phytochemicals ARE beneficial if YOUR INSULIN IS ALWAYS ELEVATED. However the conclusions that bone loss increase because that is what is seen in sugar burners does not necessarily apply to ketone burners. The only way to begin to make these assumptions more conclusive is to re-do the same studies with 1-2 year keto adapted people.
