Are roasted macadamia nuts okay?

(Lorraine) #21

I always have Macadamia nuts in my desk at work. They are great for a small lunch or snack, whatever I need to get me through the day. Over The holidays, when others were eating goodies, I just pulls those out and they hit the spot!

My problem is I’ve been buying them at Costco, where there’s no such thing as small sizes. Even the nuts themselves seem like twice the size as those at other stores.

Oh my. The Costco Crackadamias. I love what they sell, for the reasons you list. My wife hates it, as they’re not cheaper, but cheaper than the Mauna Lua sold in the S.E. U.S… Sigh.

Easy to sneak into theaters, too, so you can avoid the sugary crap they sell.

I miss theater .

The only issue I would see in pre roasted nuts is the oil used in the roasting process if that is a concern you have. I personally like my nuts right out of the freezer…

(Empress of the Unexpected) #27

That was my concern as well, since the oil used is not labeled on the package.

Brilliant, I hadn’t considered that. I cannot find Costco’s ingredients on-line. Anyone vouch for them?

(Empress of the Unexpected) #29

Same ingredients as mine - just roasted macadamia nuts and sea salt. They also do not detail what they are roasted in.

I am beginning to rethink this - may just roast my own. [https://www.drweil.com/diet-nutrition/nutrition/are-roasted-nuts-unhealthy/]

Costco’s Kirkland signature are dry roasted. No oils used to roast them. Otherwise it would be listed on the ingredients.

(LeeAnn Brooks) #32

Then they are probably dry roasted.

Check for something like this.

I just roast mine for about 15 mins in the oven no oil needed you have to watch them though as they can catch pretty easily. Add some sea salt.

Wow, not sure why I started this discussion. Looked at the ingredients on my macadamias and it says “dry roasted.” Duh!
