Are cardio workouts before keto diet useful?

Hello! I’m going to buy the rowing machine to do cardio exercises before starting the keto diet. But I need your help in choosing a brand. Which is better? And how useful is cardio while keto diet?

Concept 2 has the best rowers, might be expensive though. Fat loss is dictated by food way moreso than by exercise.

I’m not gonna say you shouldn’t, or that cardio is bad… but I will say be careful. Too much cardio can hinder your goals with keto because it can interfere with your hormones, make you hungrier, etc. I spent years doing excessive cardio and it did nothing for me. I finally discovered that healthy eating (keto) and some strength training is the best way to go, for me.

I’d get a body weight training device instead. Like these:

Do body weight lifting, squats/knee bends, etc.

There’s nothing wrong with cardio per se, but lifting is generally better for muscle mass, which might benefit insulin sensitivity.

Or combine the two.

Nothing wrong with cardio but keto at the start can lower your energy and stamina. If it were me I don’t think I would start a radical change in my diet and heavy cardio on the same day. If you do I would go very easy on the cardio and slowly build.

Thanks for advise! I also found useful info about rowing machine brands here https://askyourfitnessquestion.com/rowing-machine-brands-sunny-health-fitness-vs-stamina-vs-concept2/ Summing up everything, decided to buy Concept2. What do you think?

It’s what the pros use. <3

I did cardio for years (ran 10 miles per day) before keto (I was trying to outrun my diet :joy:) and after starting keto. I now do strength training (super slow burn) with weights and kettlebell swings. It has been a game changer for me. My body has much more definition. As @KetoMomof2teens stated, I too have found that cardio makes me more hungry. My kettlebell swings are a HIIT workout (5 sets of 200 reps each), and even those days I find myself hungrier.

This was me, strict calorie deficit and running 35 miles a week. I lost 55 pounds but it was not a long term solution. I gradually started the weight creep until I had put 30 pounds back on. Enter keto and I am down 25 pounds effortlessly. This is a much better long term solution for me.
