I am 1 week following the keto diet, been in Ketosis (according to the keto sticks) for the last 5 days. I’m eating under 20 net carbs per day. Almost all my carbs come from veggies. I am eating a lot of salads with lean protein and cheese and fatty dressings. Also some fattier meats, steamed or sautéed veggies with butter, olive oil and coconut oil. So far so good! I’m feeling pretty good and not hungry at all.
I see a lot of people on here make yummy sounding foods using artificial sweeteners and things like pork rinds etc, and still manage to keep their carbs low. I know I’m only a week in, and eating veggies all the time will probably get pretty boring!
My question is- Do any of you find any difference in how you feel based on where you get your carbs from?
Are all carbs the same?
if you were eating keto and had to stay under 20 carbs it would not make a differance too eat your carbs from 20g dextrose as too say 20 carbs worth potato but maybe the potato having fiber(more bulk, less space in your stomach from potato) might satisfy you more the 20g worth of smarties. either way in the end a carb is a carb but there is also the fact eating candy and straight up (diabetes) has no nutrient value.
There is a difference among the various types of carbohydrate. Insoluble fiber can’t be digested, for example, so it’s neutral as far as your diet is concerned. Starches, such as potatoes, are just lots of glucose molecules joined together, so they are quickly broken down into single glucose molecules. Table sugar, sucrose, which consists of a glucose molecule bonded to a fructose molecule, is very quickly broken down into its component sugars.
Glucose stimulates the production of insulin and therefore causes you body to store fat instead of burning it. Almost all carbohydrate either consists of glucose or contains glucose, which is why we tell you to avoid it, so you can burn your stored fat. Fructose can damage your liver if you eat too much of it, so you especially want to stay away from table sugar and sodas.
