Apps?

#1

Do any of use apps on your phone to track food you ate, or anything else related to your keto journey?

If so, what apps do you use? What apps are the best?

Best app to track carbs

I’ve used My Fitness Pal in the past, but switched to Atkins.

I do not think they are the best though :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:. Thanks for asking. Would like to know what the experts say.

See this thread for some good suggestions:

In order of importance

  1. My Fitness Pal (if I over eat, I gain weight, If I don’t weigh in, I gain weight)
  2. Fitbit (keeps me honest on sleep and activity)
  3. Health Kit iPhone ( nice place to record glucose, accurate stairs)
  4. Streaks (keeps track of my flexibility, push up goals, and habit building
  5. My Circadian Clock ( from an IRB approved study, The Salk Institute, IF)

Those are my top 5. MFP and Fitbit are my most valuable sources of data.

Maintaining a 73 pound weight loss of 70 pounds, 5.75 YEARS.
40 prior years of binge eating, overweight, morbid obesity.

I need all the tools. More than most. Worth it!!!

I track weight, %BF, glucose, ketones, activity and meals. If I were to start from scratch, I’d probably do UA everything so integration of data would be seamless. But as it is, I use MyFitnessPal because it pulls data from my body scale (WeightGurus) and my Fitbit. I use Glucosio (Android app) to track my glucose and ketone readings. Keto Logger is a similar app for iOS.

I use a dedicated HR monitor during workouts, and the app associated with that, as well as the specific apps for the other devices because they give greater detail.

There are things I do manually, that could be automated. There are glucose meters that sync with smartphones so you don’t have to manually log it. Likewise, there are bluetooth food scales that will upload you food data.

Before Keto I used the Fitbit App to track my food. I havn’t lately because allot of the extra nifty features center around the idea of caloric control.

The caloric control center made me switch to Atkins app. I like how the net carbs is up top.

I like that. I may check that out.

I use NetDiary Diabetes version. It doesn’t specifically have a keto option, but does allow you to adjust macros. You get warnings about how much fat, but I like having blood glucose and blood pressure in the same app. I also use Fitbit and a WeightGURUS scale. Everything syncs together.

Does NetDairy have a place to track ketones?

(Ruthanne Robertson) #12

No. The main drawback to this app is it doesn’t recognize a ketogenic diet and gives warnings when you set the macros accordingly. It does let you do so, Just tells you it’s not recommended. I’m hoping at some point that changes. I’ve just been using it since before I found keto was the way I wanted to go.

Hi. Is the atkins app an apple one? Can you please tell me the name of the app?

(Doodler for @KetoKailey) #14

Hi, @Kathy_W! The Atkins app is being upgraded. It will be ready on or shortly after 11/07. I miss it! The Atkins people said it will be even better. We shall see!

I’m using an app called Carb Manager

I like MFP for letting me set my own Macro Goals. Unfortunately they are in percentages, it depends on the total calories you enter how close you get to the 20gs to get a warning, but when you check the lovely little macro pie chart it will also tell you how many grams of carbs you have consumed, so having the warning at 23g has not been an issue so far.

Thanks

@Kathy_W Anytime! I miss the app, LOL.

I’ll add LoseIt for iOS and Android (and web). Like MFP but I bought it first. I like the recipe function, huge database, US and international foods. Good goal setting for macros in grams or % but no net carbs (yet - on the imminent wish list apparently). Good linkage to Apple Health App to send it nutrition info and receiving activity data (workout calories etc.) from whatever device is integrated to Apple Health. Don’t know about Android but it bet it’s similar.
Also has a reasonably strong community of weight loss adherents and lots of challenges (usually exercise driven) you can sign up for, though it Is full of every tribe of dieters so don’t expect too many Keto folks there but lots of people espousing their diet BS.
