Anyone have dizziness with keto?

#1

I am feeling quite dizzy.
We are having a heatwave in the mountains where I live and I am not hungry and haven’t been eating as much salt as I usually do.
Can this be salt related does anyone know?

I don’t want to charge off to my (non keto informed) doctor if it is a simple keto related thing.

Thanks for any tips.

As the body is getting rid of this excess water, it will also be eliminating minerals like potassium, magnesium, and sodium too. This can make you feel dizzy, lightheaded, and fatigued.

Usually, the easiest way to get rid of this is to drink 8 cups (64 oz) of water and 2+ teaspoons of salt per day. On my 2nd day or keto, i was a little light headed and water and salt fixed me right up.

No problem, hope it helps. Some ways you can increase sodium in your diet are salting food to taste, drinking salted bone broth, using hot sauces (most have high sodium content) on your food, adding small amounts to water or coffee and/or periodically tossing a pinch under your tongue. You don’t need to get all that salt at once. On the contrary, it could make you feel sick.

Thanks Carl. I read that link, it’s helpful and clear.
Going to go drink some broth with salt and take a magnesium cap.

Even if there was no heatwave - drink water all day. Get plenty of salt.

and now with a heatwave you’ll need more … (but don’t drink a swimming pool worth, you can go over the top)

Tracked down the source.

To my amazement I believe it was the “Organic Stevia” from my supermarket which claims to be totally organic. I think what they are calling organic erythritol in it (more than 99%) is the problem…only explanation I can come up with. I know I have no reaction to stevia or at least never did before.

I had it just twice on plain yoghurt, liked it’s taste, thought I had no side effects except woke up twice next day with the room spinning only times I ate it (days apart) same waking with extreme dizziness.

It’s the only thing I ate that is different at all and I again tried the yoghurt with walnuts and olive oil instead of the “erythritol/stevia”…no problems next day.

Posting this in case anyone else develops the same problem and can’t source it.

I think I have totally adapted with keto and am able now to enjoy savoury tastes much more than previously so plan on kcko without any sweeteners now.
