Anyone fancy joining me in a booze free July?

(Ellen) #1

I’ve noticed the booze starting to sneak in again, 1 or 2 glasses of wine or g & diet t most evenings sitting in the garden, a few extra glasses at the weekend, so have decided to abstain for July (maybe even longer), and also quitting the cigs.
If anyone wants to join me, say hi and we can do it together.

@Elle79 I’m restricting wine to less than once a week. Might not do any. Yesterday I smoked 4 pork butts and froze most of it. That is a 15 hour day. Usually, I have several glasses of wine when done. Not this time. I smiled and went to bed happy to be wine free.

I’m restricting booze to two shots of bourbon-on-ice on Friday and Saturday. Maybe not at all.

Ellen
I will go 100% booze free with you. However, not a great challenge for me as my last alcoholic drink was about 3 years ago! Is that cheating?:rofl:

Hi Ellen, I’m doing booze free 2018, since in 2017 was a really stressful/ intense year for me as regards workload and I would have 1-2 drinks whenever I wanted to relax from stress, which was every evening after work :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Not super bad, but also not a particularly healthy stress-coping mechanism.

I believe that finding an ALTERNATIVE relaxation technique can be important/ helpful.

Anything comforting/ nice you are going to be doing as you abstain?

(Ellen) #6

Hmm, you may have a slight advantage

Ellen
I firmly believe that most alcohol drinking is habitual. If you want to not drink any more, you need to have willpower for about 6 weeks. After that, you’ve fallen out of the habit, and not drinking then becomes the habit.

I can tell you that I feel sooooooo much better from not drinking any more.

(Ellen) #8

Yeah I hear you on the work thing, am cheering you on. With the nice weather I might try going for a walk in the evenings and have my ever expanding TBR pile to work on.

(icky) #9

What’s TBR ?

(Ellen) #10

To Be Read :grinning: and when I say pile I actually mean 4 of them

(Allie) #11

I actually cannot remember the last time I had alcohol… actually I can, it would’ve been the end of Jan 2014, unless a particularly potent batch of water kefir I made a couple of years ago counts, I swear it was alcoholic although I’m told that’s not possible :joy:

Good luck with the challenge @Elle79 this is the kind of thing everyone on the planet will benefit from.

Bourbon last night, now i’m fasting through the 4th.

(Elijah Barrett) #13

Hey I’d love to do booze free July with you. I used to drink a few times per week and have been successful limiting myself to 1 or two beers once a month! I also quit using tobacco last summer, so I’m here to help!

(Ellen) #14

Never had kefir, heard it can be potent! Did have fermented horse milk in Mongolia but that was lethally acoholic & surprisingly tasty.

(Ellen) #15

Boozeless buddies  Go you :grinning: I’d quit the cigs for 4.5 years but then had a really bad 2016 and like a twat started again.

(TJ Borden) #16

I’ll support you guys from the sidelines… I actually read the heading as Free Booze instead of booze free.

Wait, does beer count? Cause I can go without liquor for a month.

(icky) #17

:joy:

My parents and grand parents and great grand parents, etc. were teetotalers. I’m grateful to them for that. My official rule is I onlly drink other people’s expensive scotch. It’s been a few years.

(Sarah Slancauskas) #19

I don’t drink alcohol at all anyway but I’m happy to support your endeavours :grinning:

(Ellen) #20

Yeah, no I’m not offering free booze
