I find this whole thing bewildering. If there’s effective treatment (and effective prevention), we have no need for emergency use authorization

It’s easier to understand when you accept the premise that the people in charge are sociopaths whose only concern is their own enrichment. Given there’s no evidence to the contrary (that people at the highest levels of government are sociopathic), it’s to be expected that they will lie, cheat, and steal to make their lives better (kickbacks from big Pharma for instance) and to save face.
