Any tips for getting back on the horse after a long fall?

(Jacqui) #1

I fell off the horse, badly, about 6 weeks ago. There’s been a lot of stressful things happening, but I really want to get back to keto now things have calmed down.

I was keto for around 3 months before that, and am really struggling to get started again.

Any tips on getting back on the keto horse?

Many thanks

Bite the bullet with a 4-day water fast. It only hurts on day 2. No difficult choices of what to eat or not.

Report back on day 5 and I’m sure you will get many recommendations how to ease back into keto.

I’d try to keep it simple & manageable - no more than 20gm of carbs per day. One rule & that’s it - any tweaking can come later.

Me too, just start again. Worry about the details later.

You can do this, Jacqui, just start over and best wishes getting back on track =)). Just do the basic Keto -20 grams or less of carbs, no sugar, get enough calories from proteins and healthy fats, enough water and electrolytes and you will be right back on the Keto wagon!

You may get something out of this video - Amy Berger is great for common sense & practical advice :slightly_smiling_face:

Meditation, sleep and of course stress should be your focus.

You cannot maintain anything on diet/WOE without these in check (diet and WOE simply amount to more stress).

Well, that’s ONE way to do it. Quite possibly the hardest and most uncomfortable way since you’re not fat adapted.

Or you could plan a grocery hull, be prepared, keep carbs below 20 grams a day and stay hydrated. You did it once, you can do it again. Best wishes.

Totally agree!!!

Yup. And even for the completely fat adapted this isn’t always easy. I’ve been keto for two and a half years and have never got through the first night without so much hunger that I couldn’t sleep at all. By 48 hrs I was so hungry that I couldn’t think. The whole fasting thing is torture for me.

Start at the beginning - carbs below 20, or as low as you can go; eat three good meals a day until you can skip comfortably with no hunger; eat clean and simple; get enough salt; no snacking; drink nothing but water, tea, coffee.

Don’t lament or dwell on going off, just embrace yourself where you are and know that you can get back on course.

:hugs:

Just bite the bullet and do it. You did it once, so you know you can. But no recriminations, hear? Just, from now on, eat the best way you know how.

You’ve gotten plenty of good advice, so I’ll only add the reminder that 90% of keto is just keeping carbohydrate low. So throw out all those packaged products, and stock up on leafy greens and above-ground veggies. You know the drill: make your gravy and cheese sauce with heavy cream, use salad greens as a vehicle for high-fat dressing, eat fatty cuts of meat, and enjoy!

Hooooo boy, I’ve been here. And here’s how I got back into things.

One
Day
At
A
Time.

Screw self flagellation with extended fasting off the bat, that’s going to be unnecessarily difficult, painful and possibly even medically unwise. You’re already finding it hard enough to get going again, don’t make the mountain even harder to climb.

You can do anything, for one day. And then do it again the next day.

You got this- just start.
