I read a research paper recently (I’ll see if I can locate it again) which essentially said that additional protein is pretty much all used for building lean tissue development, and we already know that gluconeogenesis is demand-driven.
My question is, is there any study on a protein surplus but caloric deficit?
1g of protein = 4 calories
If I eat 300g of protein that’s only 1200 calories.
I am therefore taking in a protein surplus but under my daily caloric requirements.
Obviously, in this scenario the person would require sufficient fat stores to provide the energy whilst the protein is used for lean tissue development.
Other questions
- Would the additional protein be used for lean tissue development?
- Would the additional energy requirements be taken from fat storage due to fat adaptation?
- Is the body smart enough to use protein for one purpose and fat for another?
Has anyone in a deficit had any luck with building muscles?
