Another newbie - Intro and a simple question

Thank you all for the great info. I would have replied sooner but it seems there is a limit for newbies. I did find the 2 Keto Dudes and their podcast but have not listened to them yet, but I will.

I picked up coconut oil, avocados, lard, and a couple of other things today. For breakfast (your dinner time) I had tuna salad on lettuce leaves. I’m under the protein for the day but I had quite a bit of fat with the tuna and I have had extra heavy whipping cream in my coffee. That was at about 9pm and its almost 4 am now and still no hunger. The tuna wasn’t my idea but it had nothing bad for me in it, I just had to limit how much I ate since it was a lot of protein.

I love the idea for the Brussel sprouts being pan fried in bacon grease. That sounds delicious. It’s weird that I thought my mind had gotten used tot he idea of keto when my subconscious is still trying to go light and lean, but I will kick it into shape soon enough.

I find myself very tired over the last couple of days. Not sure what to make of that yet. I am getting plenty of water and salt and don’t have any cramps, just tired. Hopefully that doesn’t last much longer.

So for breakfast (my dinner) I really kicked up the fat level, or atleast I think I did. I fried up 2 slices of thick slice bacon in a tablespoon of coconut oil. THne I scrambled 2 egg, cilantro, red onion, and Herdez hot salsa (1.5 tbsp). I added 2 oz of cream cheese to make them creamy. When it was done cooking the bacon grease and coconut oils was completely mixed in. Then I had about 1/3 cup of spinach leftover from the salad the night before with a tablespoon of butter. I salted the eggs too. Other than the lettuce tuna leaves earlier the only thing I had was some pork rinds and a cup of broth with 2 tbsp of coconut oil in it.

This was a lot for me. I do feel better though. When I eat like I did with the eggs and bacon my lethargy subsides for a few hours.

Sounds like good progress to me. :+1:

May take a while but your tiredness will subside. Sounds like you are getting the hang of it :grinning:

I feel fantastic today! I haven’t eaten yet but I will be soon because I don’t want to run down again. I liked the breakfast from yesterday so I added that to my list of recipes for use.

My coworker is going to Taco Casa and asked if I want anything. I opted for a taco salad with no beans, extra lettuce, sour cream and cheese. Is this bad? I obviously won’t eat the whole thing and certainly not the flour tortilla bowl. Is there any reason to avoid anything else on these? They come with taco meat, lettuce, cheese, black olives, and sour cream.

Listen to the 2KD podcasts and you will love them. They are brilliant.

You are doing this really well. The one point I would like to re-emphasise from @PaulL’s excellent reply is that you will have lowered your metabolism by your low calorie diet. We know that low calorie diets work in the short term, but not in the long term because of their effects on metabolism. So, you will have a time on keto where you may not lose weight and you may even gain weight. This is because your body is healing its metabolism and you need to let it. That means you need to eat, and eat lots.

Your first calorie number was too low, your 2nd one much better. It might seem like a lot, but you need to get back used to eating a decent amount of food. Keto is not low calorie. But it does end up creating a calorie deficit as per paul’s excellent explanation.

Started the podcasts (on Protein now) and everything is so much more clear to me. Loads of good info in them!
