Angus August Carnivore

#262

@JJFiddle, woof that IPA is a heavy hitter on the carby side.
you never should have looked up the carb count :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::exploding_head::joy:

-------------today is very simple day.
Off to the bigger town for mall for kiddo for back to school clothes.
Will hit Goodwill, other thrift shops and then hit mall and see what we get. She is ‘now into thrift’ store shopping cause her friends buy alot there for cheaper and now she wants to shop the ‘thrifts’ so hey, more power to her and for my wallet!!

will feed kiddo something if she wants it but I am not ordering anything out. I am so over it, I want my own food in my own kitchen.

come home I got 2 big pork chops to cook up fast
got chicken breast I need to finish up as second meal. Might make alfredo if it doesn’t feel like too much work HA

#263

did you get your August consultations handled and are you trying all in carnivore in Sept? just wondering your timeline into your walk into this plan ya wanna try?

#264
Sorry, i should’ve posted this here
i posted this in the other thread:
Long story short?
I’m currently concentrating on giving up one thing at a time, namely alcohol (this is D-Day + 11 alcohol free).
I can see me graduating towards more % carni diets naturally, but decided this wasn’t the right time for a complete exclusion of nuts, berries, mustard, mushrooms and some veg.

Don’t hate me! :disappointed_relieved:

#265

it is fine. you have your path. do it but icky pics of the products don’t help us in any way LOL :eyes::exploding_head::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

you wanna stay Keto it is fine cause it suits you right now in your journey.

cool, thanks for update on ya!

#266

Tried to blur the pic- it won’t let me!
:see_no_evil::man_shrugging:

(Robin) #267

If you can tackle and defeat the alcohol beast, you win! The rest can wait. 11 days! Good for you!
And in my case, ZC is only the result of having to eliminate so many problem foods that I was there anyway. I realize it may be seen as the panacea, but good old keto is a fine lifestyle if it works for you!

Back to the 11 days
woo hoo!
YOU GOT THIS!

(Karen) #268

Oh sleepful nights why do you continue to elude me? :tired_face:đŸ„± oh blimey even putting that yawning emoji on made me đŸ„±

Up early and spent the day listening to phone calls which reminded me that most days do drag! I need reminders like that after a good, sense of achievement day! Reminds me where I want to be and it’s not there!

Only a half day tomorrow Yay!

Brunch was the usual chicken n butter and now I am going to cook a big ribeye.

(Karen) #269

Had the ribeye seared on one side, wasn’t sure how it would turn out as it was a thicker steak than I usually buy. Grassfed prob about 8-10 oz, guestimate. It was so tender and delish thankfully. Even though it has been reduced it was still a bit dearer than I usually pay for the full price thinner ribeyes. Worth every penny cos I avoided every mouthful! I guess I could have eaten it completely raw but as I have said before I am not a great fan of cold meat and this way meant it was hot but raw.

Had 'dessert of trout patĂ©. I picked it up in Sainsburys on way home from work as I had to park there for the pharmacy to collect my meds. Bought a few different fishy things for ‘desserts’ while I was there. The trout patĂ© was slightly salty and although my daughter loves trout I think she would have said it was too salty. It was nice but I won’t rush back to buy more.

Another early night for work tomorrow so I will be in bed very shortly.

Oh the lighting outide was quite strange this morning when I opened my curtains
the pic of garden was the true colour! If i hadn’t had to go to work it would have been nice to sit out there. It was overcast but no rain.

I will try to read back. I almost died the way there and back, long trip in a hot car in the hottest days of the year
Not for me. But I survived somehow. The rest was okay except I had bad headache. But now I am back and fine! The zoo was lovely even though we didn’t saw one of the stars, the snow leopard. But we saw white tigers and lions and zillion other things. The vultures showed off their 3m wingspan all the time  I love vultures and we have none

I managed to get off the topic of food from my mind! I have no idea about the food amount I had but it surely wasn’t much. I brought home some pork. I ate my sausage, sponge cakes (poor things has a serious quality drop after the hot trip, they were even squashed
and left in plastic, yeah that was a bad idea. they still was edible just not particularly enjoyable), a decent amount of chicken
And I couldn’t stick to carnivore but I wasn’t sooo bad. (There were fruits. And it was hot summer. I have my limits.)

And our plants didn’t die  They were a tad wilted but not worse than missing a single watering. Yay.

I have plenty of pork chuck roast now. Lovely cut, it’s my fav for a reason. I made the dish on Monday, I wonder how long it will last
Do you have experience about it? I always ate it up in 5 days I think and when not, I put it into the freezer. But my freezer is pretty full now and if my meat survived 2 hot trips without problems, the pieces in the fridge should be okay for a little while
?

I had no eggs apart from the sponge cakes I ate up at a single meal
And no dairy
No coffee
But I came home and had coffees with cream because that is sooo nice and I was so miserable
 I have an opened package of cream for a few days, I will try to go back to no coffee afterwards.
And I have some quark, that must be eaten asap!

I have problems in August, it seems, I mean, not problems, per se but staying very close to carnivore is tricky now. But I am closer than last year for sure, not like I remember last year. And getting ready to do it properly in a few days, I don’t want to wait for September.
But it’s not sooo bad or not always, today I had a meat lunch in the zoo  It’s quite special as I almost never eat that simple but I had no other stuff and it was fine. I had no hunger today, I just ate when Alvaro ate but not very much. Or IDK, pork chuck roast is dense
But when I ate it, my body welcomed the food so it probably wasn’t a bad idea. I just don’t get hungry, I have these times. But I didn’t even feel I need to eat, no dizziness or weakness, nothing at all. Odd. Maybe I ate so much before I went on a holiday that it affected the next 3 days, my body is able to do that. That’s useful as I tend to eat a ton on some days so it’s logical to have less later, not like it always happens. But if I don’t eat without a reason, it happens I think.

Your garden is like an oasis!

(Megan) #272

That’s awesome Coop! Keep us posted. It might even help to make a thread so you have a place to talk it out whenever you want to have a drink or 3.

#273

Was someone talking about this carnivore doctor recently?

I listened to a recent interview. I’m a bit sceptical about these carnivore proponents that come from lifelong health. My preference is for proponents that have overcome poor health with diet and lifestyle adjustments.

(Megan) #274

I’m with you there Franko. Whenever I’m looking something up and find studies and anecdotal info about marathon runners, endurance cyclists etc I don’t both reading it. I’m 60, female, post-menopausal, and I don’t exercise. The doc in that video works with people like me sometimes tho, so when he’s talking about his patients I listen a lot more than when he’s talking about his own personal journey. Besides, how can you not hate someone with a body like that! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

(Judy Thompson) #275

Good evening!
I love to listen to Anthony Chaffee because 1) He’s so different from my own doctor, who could care less about diet and only wants me to exercise nonstop, and 2) Most of his talks stick to science. I know he was always so healthy but when he tells stories about his medical school and the people he interviews, I do really enjoy it. I know he’s only 42 - same age as my deadbeat son  - but even listening to athletes who are carnivore, so different than the usual athletes who “carb up” - very inspirational as the alternative lifestyle that we are in.

@Fangs I know!! I should never have looked it up. “But now that you know
” Lastnight’s foot and ankle cramps were so bad, and I can’t help but believe they were at least in part caused by dehydration from that beer.
@coopdawg WTG, off alcohol 11 days!
@Shinita Welcome Home! Ya did great on the trip. I think your pork will be fine until it tastes “off” and then toss it. Could be today, who knows?

So I got about 4 hours sleep lastnight, puppy always gets me up when the sun comes up. We went to town, I had a mammogram this morning and then into the shopping day and out to a western wear shop to check out some shirts/tops for our gigs. I found a lovely top that looked great on, V-neck in a light teal to go with a skirt I already have. I love seeing things on me these days, still lots to lose but that could take another year. Meanwhile I’m comfy in my body and happy to be adapted and continually adapting more.

Breakfast after the appointment this morning at Sunset Grille was 2 eggs, 3 pcs sausage, so good, with a cup of black coffee. I love black coffee if it’s good coffee and this place uses very good coffee.
One stop we made was to the meat shop where I finally got the ingredients for braunschweiger, which I’ve wanted to make. I’ll post a screenshot of the recipe. I got beef liver instead of pork liver, they only had a 2.5 lb pork liver and it would have been too much. They had pork back fat, about twice as much as I needed so I’ll be able to use it again. The pork shoulder, 8 oz, was right on. I got the loaf pan in the mail the other day for it, so I’ll make it tomorrow.
Meanwhile I bought liverwurst and split a snack with the puppy when we came in. She loves liverwurst and can smell it as soon as I open it!
We had to drive back to San Antonio to pick up my bow this evening, which was finished and looks great. The evening here is so cool tonight, in the 70’s and we’re out on the deck in the dark after watching the hummingbirds fight each other for dinner!
@Karen18 Yes, your beautiful garden, so pretty in the morning! It seems to go on forever!

(Megan) #276

Hi everyone. ZC is tootling along, I find it so simple and easy to do. Take meat out of the freezer, thaw, cook. Most days I eat pork (cheapest meat here) and a piece of rump steak, often with a knob of cream cheese. Before I go to sleep I often have some very low carb unsweetened plain greek yoghurt with a bit of cream stirred thru. Some liver a few times a week, and occasionally eggs and a thick slice of cheese. That’s pretty much it. Eat when hungry, stop when satiated. Losing about 2 pounds a week. 26 pounds lighter since starting at the end of May this year.

I feel okay, would like to have more energy but my chronic pain has lessened by about 50%. Mood wise it’s hard to tell, so much stress at the moment. I’ve come off my 2 night time meds (for sleep) and am now sleeping “naturally” fine. Been having brain zaps for several months now so thought stuff it, I’m having them anyway, I may as well start slowly decreasing my antidepressant dose. Last week or so I’m getting white lightning flashes in the corner of my right eye, most noticeable at night time when it’s dark. No clue what’s causing both of these things, unlikely anything to worry about. Just very unpleasant, especially the brain zaps.

Grace is finally perking up a bit. She’s been soooo tired and listless. I keep checking to make sure she’s breathing when she’s asleep. I’ve upped her protein a bit which may be helping. She may have also simply passed thru the suddenly getting zero carbs phase (I’ve been mostly feeding her kibble the past couple of years damnit, tho I raw fed her the 1st 9 years). Giving her golden paste (turmeric and black pepper based recipe) mixed in with her raw food. She’s a real foodie and so far doesn’t mind the black pepper.

Grieving is hard, I’m in a depression hopelessness “phase” at the moment. I’ve been really angry, which is hard on my friend who lives with me.

Having Tallulah/Lulu, my almost 8 month old rottie pup, is going to help a lot when Grace dies. I call her Tank (dang she’s solid, even tho she’s still a bit small for her age - was grossly underfed as a tiny puppy) or Destructo-Rottie. Her fav activities at home are ripping up cardboard boxes, bringing bits of branches from outside inside and chewing them up and pulling the stuffing out of soft toys. Never met a dog that makes this much mess! lol

(Judy Thompson) #277

Megan you’re incredible! Way to go!

#278

Oh I usually buy a lobe only. Well I used to, I dislike pork liver so I stopped. As I ate okay liver dishes made definitely not by me and the usual pùté here uses pork liver and I love it, I always kept the hope I will be able to make something nice from it but until inspiration hits, I stay away
Now I am interested in this recipe. I will change the ingredients, being me (how could I get back fat? Is that a thing? Wow. But any fat tissue should be fine I suppose)
Beef liver and pork liver are usually NOTHING like each other, they are in the opposite ends of the spectrum according to my tastebuds. Pork liver is very strong flavored and bitter while beef liver is mild and quite sweet. The strong pork liver calls for added things so a pùté is a good idea even though many people just eat it as stew (still almost only fried liver, nothing too wet and only a little onion is added, the sweet onion balances out the bitter liver) or fried or something similar.
I will experiment
And my meat tastes good at this point. Fortunately if I will be a tad uncertain, I don’t need to throw it out as the cats gladly eat it up and at that point it won’t be rotten meat just not fresh and nice enough for me. I do the same with eggs, I almost never find an off one, only something mildly dubious or I don’t use up a cracked one for 2 days, still edible but the cats should have something like that here and there, they love eggs. All not strictly herbivore bigger land animal species love eggs as far as I know as eggs are awesome

Oh today’s trip will be cycling through the wildlife park forest
And then on the road uphill  Not even too late so it won’t be super hot! Soooo much better than trying to stay alive in a hot car! I need this kind of activity and missed my lovely walks/bicycle rides. We went for walks there but it’s an ugly town, too many people, too much garbage, noise etc. There was a beautiful little river with super tiny waterfalls (if the water breaks and becomes white with a nice sound, it’s a waterfall to me, okay? we have so few so tiny ones I need to have a wide definition to have waterfalls) but it was surrounded with the town. And it’s not a beautiful town.

All my plants are pretty now (except a hazelnut bush), even the tiny tomato plant that just appeared in the big leander tub (so flower tub is a term, I didn’t know), I only noticed it before we left. It wilted horribly but stayed green and got healthy after a good drink yesterday.
And I still barely believe my leanders didn’t wilt. But when we skip a SINGLE morning watering (they still get their evening one), they start to die dramatically, sagged flowers and everything
They even want a ton of water all the time in winter in the not even dry house. Oh well, I am glad they are pretty and blooming now and I can smell them again. My throat, mostly my voice wasn’t the best in the last days but I felt healthy and now even that passed. Only a few days of partial smell losing, that’s not too bad. I need my smell and taste (that never got affected :D)!

Last night I got hungry again, I probably had too little food in the previous 2 meals, they really weren’t big
I couldn’t track even if I had the weight information as the pork chuck made a lot of lard
Not so very much but significant. it’s not nearly as pretty and fun tasting as the lard from frying my previous pork but will be useful for my scrambled eggs. I kind of miss that super simple dish, it was so long ago!
So I had pork roast (ate up all the poor pieces suffering 2 long hot trips) and cheese and even a little sausage. I try to avoid eating too late in the future as it’s really harder to eat enough then. Like my satiation signals suffer some problems
? Or satisfaction? IDK but it doesn’t go as smoothly as at lunch and dinner. And I overdid coffees. I think I expect something awesome from it and I don’t get it just quickly drink it so I drink again and again
Another reason to quit coffee, not completely but almost. It’s nice with cream but still not what I expect from it. Maybe it needs eggs too

@MeganNZ: It’s good you have a puppy too but I still hope Grace still have some longer than expected nice time with you
As long as she won’t suffer, no one wants that.

I stooped off at a butcher’s shop on after getting my bloods taken today.
Took the plunge with some lambs’ hearts (8 of them, I’ve never had before) and some beef liver (never had beef liver before). I also got a more conventional pork fillet too.
Any recommendations on how to cook/recipes for the hearts? I can look online, but just in case you have a fave way of doing them. Cheers.
Beef liver.

Lambs’ hearts.

Pork fillet.

(Michael) #280

I prepare heart by cutting off most of the fat and all the heartstrings. The remaining is 5 or 6 lean steaks ( in beef , venison, elk or Buffalo at least). I then bake at mid temp for only a few minutes a side to cook the outer layer only. Raw heart is the best, so the inside is still raw, and as such, it melts in your mouth and is extremely tender ( more tender than most steaks raw). I eat heart daily since it is so good. The longer you cook the tougher, less juicy and worse tasting. While I heat the outside to be extra safe, it is best tasting uncooked.

#281

Suitable properties for the slow cooker? Say, 8 hrs overnight?
