An opinion on Cauliflower
Speaking of Facebook, someone posted one of those videos showing you how to make grilled cheese sandwiches, using cauliflower for the bread.
It was supposed to look something like this:
I thought, that looks easy enough. I’ll give it a try.
Well, it came out looking more like this:
With a whole lot of dishes to clean up.
After that experience I decided, cauliflower isn’t worth it.
What is the WORST keto recipe you have tried?
Reminds me of Dave Barry once writing that celery isn’t actually a food - it’s a member of the plywood family.
And it is fortunate indeed that brussel sprouts taste a good deal better than they smell while they’re cooking.
This is hilarious! I have had a similar experience so many times when trying a recipe that looks amazing on Pinterest.
The only time I’ll have it is when l make a stir fry. I use riced cauliflower instead of rice. I fry it in coconut oil and salt. I actually enjoy it quite a bit and has a very similar texture.
Like a lot of things, it’s about how you cook it.
(See the liver thread for more details on how this is very very true.)
You cooked it right but you ate it wrong. Wrong’uns are to be eaten in private - close the curtains, add butter/salt, eat straight out of the pan standing over the sink (optional: in your underwear). Your shame is complete
I used to wonder for a long time why there was a stretch of road on my way to art school that smelled like someone was cooking cauliflower every day … until I figured out on the city map there was a cleverly hidden waste water treatment facility nearby
Than being said, I like cooking the stuff until soft and the pureeing it with so much butter and salt and nutmeg that you can’t taste the cauliflower anymore, you just end up with a lovely creamy mash - one of the few things I am bound to eat too much of!
I tried one of the Cauliflower Mash recipes - it looked really odd because I used a purple cauliflower (it was on sale). The recipe called for butter, grated parmesan cheese, lemon juice, and lemon zest. I followed it exactly and it turned out really, really good. Maybe a little too much of the lemon zest flavor came through, but I think that may be what counteracts the cauliflower smell.
Though cleanup (food processor) was a bit more effort than I wanted to deal with. Next time I am going to look for recipes where I can just use a hand mixer and mix everything in the same pot I use to boil/steam the cauliflower.
I’ve always liked this recipe:

And my wife makes a great mashed cauliflower. I can’t tell any smell, but then I can drink most hot sauces, and when a server warns me that something is spicy hot, I find it to be mild, so I think my taste buds/smell is not what it used to be.
Personally, I think Cauliflower is the Chicken of the Veggie World. It takes on the flavor of whatever you use it with provided you season it enough.
Haha! I love cauliflower, but I live right where it grows in California, and those fields sure do stink!
