An ironic poem from almost 40 years ago

I wrote this and got it published in a college literature magazine. I just ran across it looking through a box of old mementos. I think folks here will find it amusing.

Dieter’s Distress
Oh! Foul Temptress!
Thou, Twinkie on the shelf.
Whisper thy taunts of creamed filling
no longer to my soul.
Appeal no more to the golden sponge cake desires
of my inner being!

Be Gone!!
I dare not look upon thee
in thy immodest cellophane negligee!
Oh Agony!!
Bane of mankind inspired by the evil Hostess…
loose thy grip!
Alas!!
My mortal soul is no adversary for thee,
moist, fresh one.

With every bite of thee
so am I devoured.
Well fed are thee, oh conquering pastry,
for my resistance was thy meal,
my surrender, thy dessert.

It’s wonderful, I immensely enjoyed this  It’s funny and quite pretty too - as far as I can tell, I think I can, I enjoy English texts, I just can’t write on that level, not even in my own language. I didn’t even try poetry in English and my kid poems had just nice rhymes and cute feelings, that’s it. But this is good  I will read it a few times more.

Spectacular poem. I can relate. Here’s hoping we don’t give in again.
