Am I the only one alarmed about manufactured meat?

#1

I saw this post on another thread and it just left my jaw hanging - especially considering that Impossible Foods is already selling these patties to 2000 restaurants.

I hope that restaraunts disclose if they are using this product instead of real beef (if this stuff does taste as good as they claim) because I’m still trying to heal!

I am sure the research will be about as good as the high carb, eat more grain research, So yes scared as hell about this.

Not a fan at all.

Have you heard of “clean meat” ?

It’s meat cells grown in a lab.

It’s hideously expensive at the moment, but the price is expected to fall.

#6

clean meaning no sat fats, and no soil enrichment?

(icky) #7

No, clean meaning no animal cruelty involved and no negative impact on environment (I think?)

#8

Hope it stays expensive so us commoners have to eat dead animals

I’m looking forward to cultivated meat. I expect it to be a higher quality meat.

If you want something to be alarmed about, go see the conditions beef can be raised in, and visit a few slaughterhouses. And then go watch what the packaging companies put into your “ground beef”…horse meat, for example.

(Karen) #10

Not sure there’s a problem with eating horse meat.

if it has a tail and a nose, feed it to me. I live on a island our local beef is like wild game, and not all beef is in a feed lot.

#12

There is if I bought ground beef… :frowning:

I’m assuming a package of ground horse would be cheaper?

#13

actually horse is more money

I’m really not happy about eating fake meat. I ate a lot of Morning Star Farms kinda stuff over the years and it’s really not so good for you. I quit a year or so ago and have no desire to go back. If I want meat, I’ll eat meat knowing that I’m fussy about where it comes from. If I don’t want to eat meat, I won’t eat meat. And I’m significantly fussy about where my veggies come from, too.

Quorn will make me hurl for most of a day. Soy will make my wife swell up and break out in hives. Ya know, sometimes it’s just best to go with real food. What worries me is when it’s not disclosed.

#15

had to look up Quorn, just reading the first three words I had to close the page

Let them eat wheat! Buyer beware. If we want control over what goes in our mouths, then we should either cook it ourselves or have a good relationship with the person/establishment selling you the food (and make sure you trust them).

Otherwise your burger patty could be made of wheat. Ugh!

(Alec) #17

Does the Impossible in Impossible Foods refer to their food being impossible to digest?

#18

I think the problem will solve itself as soon as we all stop eating grains the land will then graze livestock and the feed lots will not be needed and there will be no grain to feed then captive cows, so spread the word stop eating the disease causing grains!!!

Meh, I watch animals slaughtered quite frequently. Quite a bit more humane than a prey animal being torn apart and eaten alive by predators. I also hunt, process, and eat animals and birds. Virtue shaming is nonsense. You’re entitled to believe what you want, but don’t be surprised for your beliefs to be challenged when you push unsolicited views on others.

I assure you, the ground meat typically found in stores in my area is 100% beef. Even the “pink slime” hysteria of a few years back was nonsense, it was made from beef also. Even it was usually found in those prepackaged rolls, not your typical pack of hamburger.

Grew up in the country and also hunt big game, so back you on that 100%
