Am I in Keto and how will I know I’m fat adapted

So started 10 June just starting week 3 Keto (did a low cal low carb week before that )

Ok so I am new on this journey and I know Keto isn’t a magic bullet but I am really hoping it will work in the long term. My concern is that while steady, given it’s early days and the amount of weight I have to loose, weightloss is slow. The reason this is an issue for me is my body shape hardly changes. Even when I have lost weight before or been going to gym 8/9 times week you see little on my body I mean not even a dress size. My other half started Same time as me and has smaller clothes which now are starting to bit.

But if I keep loosing 2lb a week I am happy!

The key word is BUT!

I’m worried I’m not in Keto and that it’s going to totally stop working soon and I’ll be stuck where I am.

I use carb manager app - my worst micros were
5% carbs 68% fat and 27% protien

Mostly I am 70-80 % fat and 3-6% carbs my calories vary from 1500-2300

I also fast eating only 1130/12ish until 2030

The Keto stick has been staying 0.8 since day two but I didn’t have any of the side effects. (Had bad breath day 2-4).

I can’t afford a better monitor at the moment and I’m not sure if this is actually working for me. Can someone help or point me in the right direction.

Finally going forward how will I know when I become fat adapted and will I start to loose more weight at this point or will it remain couple pounds week?

Thanks in advance.

Looks good. 2 pounds a week would be great. 1 pound a week would be great. You list female. It’s key to be patient. And welcome!

Listen to the lastest podcast. Keto weight loss is not as steady as we would wish. But the health benefits are! Be prepared for stalls and just becasue the scale doesn’t show anything - doesn’t mean your metabolic function isn’t on the way to recovery.
I speak of what I know - had the big wieght loss at the start, and now its maybe 1-2 lbs per month. That’s just the way it is for a lot of us. Even when fat adapted

Thank you. I think that you see all these images and hear all these stories of people loosing 50lb in 5/6 months and you expect it to be you too.

It seems I have dropped down to 0.15 today so technically out of ketosis. My carbs went over my 18g to 22g yesterday so I think that’s why.

I noticed only time my ketosis Stix got to top was one day I had 10g carbs. I think I must need super low levels of carbs which is hard while still eating veggies (even leafy ones), also I do enjoy some cheese one of the things that made me want to try Keto but that has some carbs so going to have to limit that more.

Is it common for some to need less than 10g carbs has anyone heard?

It’s been said here numerous times, but urine ketostix are not a good way to determine whether or not you’re in ketosis, much less whether or not you’re fat adapted. You’ll know you’re fat adapted when you’re not hungry, when you’re not craving carbs, when you feel GOOD, have energy and can go without eating for a number of hours without becoming hypoglycemic or irritable.

You’ve lost almost 3 pounds a week. That most likely will not continue. The people who lose huge amounts of weight quickly are usually young, significantly overweight men. You’ll be disappointed if you expect that degree of weight loss to continue, sadly. Stalls of a week or so are common. Change things up if you stop losing. And look to non-scale victories as the best sign that you’re doing well and are fat adapted.

Don’t be overly focused on ketostix. They really don’t tell you much. In fact, when they’re dark, if means you’re dumping ketones in the urine, not using them effectively yet.

Oh, yeah, and keep calm and stay in ketosis lol.

I had heard that about Keto Stix but it’s my biggest hope. To feeling I’m doing it right.

I already feel great don’t eat for 16-19 hours each day without getting Hungry and haven’t craved carbs since I started. Basically it has been ‘but easy’ dare I say. That’s why I’m convinced I’m not in ketosis lol.
Surely a way of eating that’s so good for you can’t be this easy and pain free?!?!

Thanks again for all the comments guys. So glad I found this forum so many people commenting on so many threads. And bit more reality than instagram and you tube were providing which I think I needed.

It sounds like you’re doing fine. Just don’t freak out if the sticks stop turning purple, it CAN mean( but doesn’t always) mean that you’re becoming fat adapted. That usually takes up to a few months, though.

You are doing just great. Don’t worry right now about it not working. It IS working right now for you, so keep on doing what you’re doing. Worrying about what might or might not happen is counterproductive.

How do you know when you are fat adapted? My opinion is it is when you can do a 36hr fast and not feel that hungry. That means your body is able and comfortable to be chewing through bodyfat. Others may have a different way of knowing, but that’s mine.

You know that you are fat adapted when you look at the jar of bacon grease from the drippings from all the bacon you have been eating and the thought goes through your mind, “if I put that in the microwave for a minute, I bet I could drink that”.
